It's my favorite 2D Zelda, I think, and probably in my top 5 Zelda games overall.

It's not my absolute favorite Zelda, it's somewhere in the middle. But either way, it's a great game with a lot of original ideas (well, when it wasn't just copying aLttP), and fun well-designed gameplay.
Btw, I very recently did a minimalist hero difficulty challenge run, and... holy heck the final boss was so incredibly difficult. Basically couldn't take any hits at all, took many attempts.

It would probably be the best imo if it was wholly original instead of reusing so much stuff from LTTP.

I get that for most people, that reusing the old map and stuff was a PLUS because muh nostalgia but imo there were fewer surprises because of that

It's okay, but to me it started marking the end of the traditional Zelda experience for me (something that they would bring to completion with BotW), so it fell quite a ways short of its predecessor (one of my favorites) for me.

Having to just buy most upgrades with rupees rather than getting them the traditional way by discovering them in dungeons made said dungeons less interesting/exciting to me and diluted the experience. I also don't really care that much for the whole "do stuff in whatever order you want" thing in video games, so that aspect didn't really make up for it. Sequence breaking is only potentially appealing to me when it feels like you're actually breaking the boundaries of a game and doing something the developers didn't necessarily anticipate -- in other words, it's only interesting when there actually IS a sequence to be broken.

Absolutely. ALBW is a peak Zelda game.

I will say, I didn't care much for the "buy the items!" thing. It just wasn't a very interesting way to get items. They're all in one room, buy them when you want. I liked finding tunics/shields etc in dungeons, but the method of getting standard items was bland. I think little quests near their respective dungeons would have worked better. Even if it's just "talk to this NPC and they'll give you the hammer" or something. But I never wanted for rupees, so the whole shop aspect really provided no interaction.

Great game, as all Zelda games are. But it's also one of my least favorite Zelda games. Including all the Zeldas I've played, it's sitting at the very bottom along with Minish Cap.
