Just started playing Mega Man X2 and wow, its hitting all the right notes! The bosses are tough, the music is iconic, and those upgrades feel so satisfying

X2 is peak

I prefer X1 over X2, but both are good games. Although one complaint I had was that for Sigma you revisit one of the levels and it was a level that wasn't my favorite. But otherwise it's a good classic X game.

It didn't quite reach the greatness of X1 for me but it's still an excellent game.

I think the closest thing I have to a complaint is that some of the secrets and gimmicks were convoluted to the point that it made me go "is this really necessary" lol. Like that one miniboss that tries to scan you in the preceding platforming section, but only powers itself up a miniscule amount of it succeeds. It was a neat idea, but there's hardly any reason to actually try to avoid the cursor except for its own sake.

But anyway, it's such a miniscule thing I dunno if I could really even count it. The game is terrific.

Great game. Id almost say its better than X but I have to 100% these games and X2 is more frustrating in this regard.

It is a phenomenal follow up to the first game. Having the dash from the start is honestly a game changer for the level design and it shows. X is still my favorite but X2 is not far behind. Also best upgraded charge shot in the series hands down.

But Second's was definitely better than Third/Gold (not counting Z-saber), Falcon, Gaia, Blade, Glide, Icarus, Hermes and maybe First.

Yeah, while it may not be perfect, it is a fantastic game. Enjoy.

MMX2 is also one of the few in the series that allows you to skip to the final level without playing any of the additional fortress stages. The only other mega man game I think of that allows that is MM7.

This. I found the level design of X2 to be kind of bad compared to both X1 and X3. It's not a bad game, but I consider it the weakest of the three.

Agreed. Despite me liking the music (I do think X2 has the weakest OST overall out of the 3 SNES games in general), the actual level design was kind of......boring I guess for some of the levels. In comparison every single one of X1's stages was a hit. Also the weapon set in X1 is just great.

For the X2 stages I like wire sponge's, bubble crab's, overdrive ostriches (I do think that bike segment should have been extended a bit), flame stag's is ok, and especially like wheel gator's (not going to lie a giant gator tank crushing a city is legit awesome in concept). The other 3 was just kind of there.....and with slowdown. Oh god the X hunter fight slowdooooowns. Sigma stages were eh. X2 weapon set was......eh. Wheel gator is my favorite maverick in X2 and yet it pains me to admit I barely ever found a use for his wheels.

I actually prefer X3's goofy back-and-forthing over X2 (which isn't too bad if you start off at blizzard buffalo, go to acid seahorse, beat tunnel rhino, go to neon tiger's joint real quick, grab arm upgrade and tanks then spike yourself out the stage. Go to the hornet, grab armor, go blow up somewhere to exit. Go fight gravity beat w/ buster man to man bot for that gravity well. Go to volt cashfish then finish up). Sounds a lot on paper, but I got that X3 playthrough down to a science.

X3's main fault is that the ride armor select system neat concept on paper feels like once they actually got it working they forgot to make the stages have some sick ride armor alternate paths (compared to the quick puzzle solutions they are actually used for).

X is classic but i always thought X2 was slightly better. LOVED the snes trilogy. definitely the peak of the series. haven't went through and beat them all since the PS2 days. have been wanting to again. i did try X7 cause i skipped that one as a kid. it's pretty aweful. X8 i rented as a kid and thought that one kinda sucked too. honestly kinda crazy how amazing that series was and then the downfall on PS1 but still pretty good games and then PS2 was just garbage and the series died for like a decade till they revived it with 9 which is probably top 5.

Loved all of the SNES games. MMX2 had great music - the X-Hunter music is great, as is the Zero fight music, even though they both are very short and loop very quickly. The only game afterwards that seems to do a decent job of it all is MMX4, which IMO is the best game in the MMX series because of its atmosphere - there's just an incredibly dark atmosphere about it (shitty voice acting and all), probably because there aren't really that many NPCs on your side so it really does seem like you're a one-man army

I never got into X2 and X3 as much, but that might just be due to not playing them as much as a kid. I think we just rented them, but we owned a copy of X1. I can play X1 and remember all the boss weaknesses and where power-ups are, but I have to go into 2 and 3 blind unless I use Google.

I did own X4, 5, and 6 on the PlayStation, though I only ever played 4 and 5 heavily.

Also I always hate fighting Wheel Gator because most of the fight is just hugging the wall waiting for him to pop up. Its so boring

Its good and maybe even better than the first, but something about it just makes it less iconic. Maybe not all of the music is amazing like the first game, or maybe some bosses arent as cool.

I also love X3 for being the weirdo of the trilogy. Its the Sonic Cd of MMx.

I bought the legacy collection a couple a months ago and stopped after dying to X1 Sigma's final form. I consider myself done because I don't have the same patience as a kid to go through the fortress from the beginning again. I should really start X2 soon.

Agree that fighting Wheel Gator sucks ass

I want to note that I like wheel gator as a concept as a stage and the stage music. I agree the actual fight blows, lol.

And the fight is very tedious too. Like...it takes forever urgh

Doesn't help that Wheel Gator is actually one of the *first* bosses you can go after since he's pretty weak to the buster
