You could have authentication and anti-cloning encryption measures on it, it's already an existing standard, and you don't have to put the card inside the console. You would just tap it like an amiibo.

This would further cut into the purpose of a game disc. You might have a disc but there's no guarantee it won't force you to download day one patches that might not exist on the console or the servers anymore one day.

Game-key cards should have the full game data on them and not just be unlocks to download from the eShop, making them into actual physical media and not a useless middleman to play a digital version of the game.

This would be a decent way to make game key cards not completely nonsensical. But I would wager it'd likely be really easy to pirate if they have to be offline capable so it'd likely be the DRM laden apocalypse.

And again: the game data could be entirely obsolete and unplayable. You just have a physical token as a transferable license. A game key.

What would the point of this be. This just sounds like a game key card with extra steps.
