I got a mashing technique, for games where it's used. It's also how I win in certain Mario Party minigames.

Clench/Flex the muscles in your arm/elbow as tight as you can. So tight that your arm starts shaking. Hold your thumb while your arm is shaking against the controller, and have the shaking press the button for you. Bam you're pressing that button at like 100 bpm.

I've used this technique before. It sorta works but I usually have a hard time with it. BTW 100bpm is not fast, lol.

My two techniques for this are:

1. Set the controller on my knee and alternate between my two index fingers. Takes some practice since it's easy to press with one finger before you get the other one all the way off the button so it doesn't count.

2. Find something convex, like a spoon or etc. alternately, you can try the flat part of your fingernail. I've heard some people put a cloth (or their shirt) over the button and then you can just use your finger, but I haven't tried it myself. Then just go back and forth over it side to side. As with the above, you have to make sure you clear the button on both sides.

Not 100 bpm then. Whatever the record high score in Mario Party is. It's fast. Like - I always win the arm wrestling contest in Monster Hunter, fast.

I've used that second technique with a pen for washing Gracie's car in Animal Crossing for GameCube. Before I learned that technique, that was one of the aspects of 100%ing the game I was most worried about.

I dont think Ive ever dropped a game entirely because it was too difficult.

There have been parts of games that I couldnt do because of difficulty. Super Smash Bros. Brawl boss battles on intense difficulty is a big one. And Super Mario Galaxy 2s perfect run stage is another.

Not sure if it counts but I recently had to stop playing Mario Sunshine because I was not having a fun time due to how freaking janky it is lol. So its like part skill issue, part not having the time or patience to deal with that crap lol.

Sekiro. Some of the checkpoints were just too far away for a boss that I had to fight like twenty times. It sucks too because I enjoyed the feel and aesthetic of the game.

Jak II. I never allowed myself to even try Jak 3 because of it, mainly because I never let go of the hope that one day it would all click, and I'd get through the whole campaign.

i wanted to play it for years but I was too spoiled by the sequel games free revive systems so I found it difficult ahha

I think the last one I did it on was Celeste, but that depends on how you define it. I got to the wall in Space that said I'd need to go do all the B/C sides to continue and noped out. That's technically past the original end of the game, though.

Anyone who's been playing since the old days knows that feeling though. If you stuck out Battletoads the original NES game until you beat it, you are incredibly stubborn and/or determined.

I want to say I have, but I can't recall what though.

Darkest Dungeon. I try not to classify it that way-I got distracted by something (Horizon?), and then I kind of forgot the game mechanics and never went back. The truth is, if the game was less difficult I probably would have just blundered my way through it.

It is a real shame. I love the game, and I was on the last set of dungeons. But so long passed I was reluctant to jump back in.

Oh yeah, I gave up on this one too. I really really wanted to like it, and the concept was great, but it felt like literally every time I stepped into combat I would just get stomped, repeatedly. I couldn't build up any good characters and some of the mechanics never made much sense to me

Yeah, this one was me as well. I didn't get very far at all, I think I did two or three runs.

I could tell it was very well made, but I just did not feel like learning all the strategies and systems for that game.

I had to quit Sekiro on the 2nd Boss (the Flaming Bull) and got about 80% into Nine Sols when I just stopped after beating the brother and sister Boss.

Nine Sols is tough, but I love the game so I will eventually go back and try to finish it. Sekiro, probably not.

Ninja Gaiden Black. Not for me.

Lol I'm glad I'm not alone with the Ninja Gaiden series

Elden ring. I know, skill issue. Whatever.
Luckily I didn't buy it, my son did. And he's really good at it.
