I was hoping to read the discussion thread here, but it sadly purged before I got to see it. Most of my spare time has been spent going to interviews and helping family with some stuff, so I just didn't have a chance to go see it until today.

Super fun ride though, really glad I got out there and saw it. It was a fun mystery, there were some excellent creepy/scary moments, and the cinematography was very strong across the board.

I really hope that Gladys becomes a horror icon. Absolutely incredible character.

Super spoiler talk: Just offhand, my favorite moments were most of the stuff with evil Marcus (even if I thought that the gay couple was really cute and I was very sad that they were doomed. They eat an absurd amount of hot dogs though.), the car haircut scene which was insanely well-done suspense, and basically the entire ending. The entire ending sequence somehow nailed the absolute perfect balance between horror and comedy, where I was both terrified by the imagery of the kids pouring through shit and also fucking dying at the entire goofy chase scene. Just a blast of a time and them tearing her to pieces was so good.

I'm also glad I've been going to movie theaters again lately. I hadn't gone in years before this year, but I went out and saw Sinners & Weapons and had a really fun time with both. I'm kind of sad that theaters are dying in general, because they're honestly still a really fun time.

But yeah, it's...not going to be in theaters for much longer, but I still very firmly recommend it to horror fans who are interested but who haven't gotten out to see it yet. I had a blast with it.

Bump, I suppose. I feel like I kind of missed the boat on discussion for this one by watching it so late, admittedly.

I saw it last week with my son. I posted a review on the horror board, I gave it a 9.5.

I was laughing at the end because it was so absurd and so well built up and well done that I was almost overstimulated in a really great way.

Gladys was great, I am hesitant to discuss too much in case someone spoils the movie for themselves because it really should be pretty unspoiled.

I never felt like I knew exactly what was going to happen at any point. It was really creative and entertaining. I think it was a bit long for my sons liking, but hes on the spectrum and only 15 so it takes a lot for him to watch a movie that long. He said it was ok but he did like it.

Also as a gay guy, I loved how the gay couple was a little bit stereotypical but not so much that they beat you over the head with it. I love representation in horror movies like this. They were one of my favorite parts of the movie especially the part where Gladys comes to the school.

They were my favorite gay horror couple since Big John and Little John in Halloween Kills.

I saw it and it felt like a waste of the premise. I dont think this is too spoilerish but will tag it to be safe. I didnt like how much focus was on side characters like the cop, junkie, and principal. I think there should have been more focus on the Teacher and Parents of missing children. I was expecting the film to be more of a mystery team up between those two characters. Due to every one thinking it was Teacher who did it.

I enjoyed it though.

True, wow my memory is terrible, forgot that also came out this year. Sinners would be my second favorite this year after Weapons.

Actually, even though I like Weapons as a whole more, Sinners has my favorite scene of the year with its mid credits scene. Genuinely makes me tear up and full of emotion every time I see it. Definitely the most emotional scene of the year.

Yeah, it was great and the ending was bonkers in the best way possible. Some talk on the movie boards when it came out that I agreed with, that I'm so glad it just.... Was. They didn't have a big hokey exposition dump about what was going on or how she got or powers or blah blah blah. It was just set in the universe and that's what was going on.

I guess a part of it was the premise to me seem like this would be a horror mystery-thriller. And it ended up spending a large part of the film on characters that didnt have a personal connection to the missing children.

For some reason I was expecting an allegory on school shootings. But I should have went in without any hopes that would have made me appreicate how the plot did progress.

Apparently that's a reference to a Whitest Kids U Know skit, but I didn't catch that when I first watched it.

I think you can still interpret it that way, loosely? I was also expecting something like that, because I thought the point of the film was "What could have happened to these kids? How could something like this happen?" Meanwhile they ignore the most obvious problem. Which they still sort of do. They were already investigating Alex's family, but they somehow missed that the kid was buying like 30 cans of soup at a time, on his own without supervision.

Honestly though, I felt like the differing perspective did drive home the school shooting angle on it?

You had the teacher who genuinely cared about the kids and who felt guilty over it all despite it not being her fault, the school staff who wants to do things by the books over the actual human angle of the whole thing, the incompetent police who miss big clues and insist that they're on it when they're not accomplishing shit, the kind of self-centered outsiders in the community who are more interested in how it can benefit them than caring about the victims, and the parents of the victims who want answers and in some cases are more effective than the police.

I feel like the structure of the story made for an interesting exploration of how an entire community handles situations like that and I definitely think that you can read it as an allegory for school shootings. It felt to me like the structure of it all was deliberately centered around the different perspectives and relations to the incident within a single community.
