...when they were already overpricing shit before the tarriffs?

We literally had a massive inflation issue start way before Trump added any tarrifs. Dropping all corporate opposition simply because Trump made it worse seems asinine. You can complain about more than one thing at once.

Not sorry.

I... don't think they are?

People don't suddenly think companies aren't greedy as fuck. Trump tariffs just gave companies an open motive to do so.

So why not blame him for prices going up?

Both things are true.

The tariffs ARE going to increase prices, but companies are also going to twist the knife further by trying to price gouge.

Corporations have to maximize profit by law under the system they operate in. All you can do is adjust incentives and disincentives for them to raise prices. Tariffs are obviously an incentive to raise prices.

If you don't like the system then you should be criticizing the system itself (or at least asking for some changes to the incentive structure within that system). There's no incentive for corporations to accept lower profits.

"maximizing profit" is a nonsensical concept. should we sell the office chairs and carpet? that would maximize profit today.

A lot of companies haven't even started it yet because they bought a lot of stock pretariffs. Shit hasn't hit the fan yet.

FYI it's because you say stupid stuff like how wallstreetbets was the fight against corporations. Knowing basic stuff about how the economy works is not bootlicking.

This. Nobody suddenly likes corporations, but them being greedy is a given. Trump giving them a motive to be even more greedy is also bad, so, of course, people are going to focus on that, because "corporations are greedy" doesn't even need to be said.

There's been an increase in people not wanting to see Trump blamed for this, for some reason...

It's almost like bad faith actors are suddenly latching on to this to try and deflect with "Oh, so you like corporations now?!"

Huh.

rofl. Yeah make shit up. All you were doing was reposting bullshit you saw from /antiwork. If I did defend corp pricing, it was because I understood why supply chain challenges could impact prices and gouging is only one part of the inflation.

Why yes, Trump tariffs are causing supply chain challenges. Corporations are facing higher costs in their supply chain, and we're likely to see costs flow down to the consumers. Again, knowing how things work doesn't make me a bootlicker. I call you out all the time because you don't know anything. Just cry corporate greed and that's a wrap.

every one of those threads was articles with economists explaining profit margins way beyond the cost of supply chain issues or inflation but go on king

Just wanted to make sure your tune didn't change. Trump is going to be a worse supply chain challenge for these businesses. Glad you see that.
But fyi your post about they haven't even started yet is incorrect, they have.

how do you propose we hold them accountable TC? should we stop buying food?

price gouging isn't something that can be handled at the individual level, its supposed to be handled at the government level, its one of the many things a functional government is supposed to protect its citizens from. thing is that even before the pedophile made it into office the government wasn't doing shit, and that's entirely because the government has decided that its ok for politicians to accept bribes from corporations.

The supply chain initial hit was from COVID. Why you linking shit from 2023? The claim was never that there's no price gouging. It's that it's one of many factors, and also COVID sparked it and gave corporations an excuse.
