I live just north of Evanston, and the general takeaway is that she's a terminally online know-it-all that really doesn't have much in terms of brains between her ears or ability in actually campaigning. Mayor Biss is the heavy frontrunner to win that nomination.

Also, that part of Evanston has shitloads of fast food restaurants already, so it wouldn't remotely be out of place there.

Not that I agree though

An area needing more options is a valid opinion, but decrying a fast food chain being out of place in an area with multiple fast food chains is pretty fucking stupid on that protestor's part.

They're protesting for a white owned more expensive specialty shop over a minority-owned more affordable option.

And Evanston has loads of local restaurants, nobody's being shut out here by approving a Popeye's nor is the city starved for choices.

This is why I think this was so poorly done. I think she thought Jan Schakowsky was some doddering old centrist and didn't realize she's basically a vital left voice and one of the most beloved congresspeople in Illinois.

That and I found it gauche how she was sending mailers with "We thank Schakowsky for her amazing service" to voters while posting on social media gloating how she forced Schakowsky out of the race
