Honestly, I'll be curious. I watch a variety but I just feel like this AI is going to be like "This profile watched one cartoon from their nostalgia days so they must be a child" and lock it down.

Honestly if they try to get the ID, what's stopping someone from making a brand new account? Like, hypothetically speaking?

But yes, this sudden acceleration in surveillance through forcing ID verification is concerning. It's a means to control speech online. To control narratives to push propaganda. It was last bastion of truth, as much as the well as been poisoned in recent years. Most people will have no choice but to go along with it, because how else would they function in today's world? That's the inevitable truth about this; most people will comply cause "what do I have to hide?"

absolutely. i'd imagine if you went down the rabbithole of lobbying money that influenced these new regulations you'd see that companies like google were blowing millions to push them through. because at their base they are a data aggregate company, and your license is just more data for them to sell.

I've mentioned this before, but I use incognito a lot with youtube in order to not be assaulted with spoilers or fascist propaganda on my account. This will just cause me to use youtube a lot less, which I guess is ultimately a good thing.

Probably not worth it in the long run. Whatever software these companies are using will likely have measures that detect AI generated pictures or the same looking faces tied to large numbers of accounts. Making and using a fake ID is just asking for a shitload of legal problems down the line too, but that's a no-brainer.

I grew up in the days of being told to keep your identity anonymous and to never share your personal information to anyone online (aka the 90s).

I knew from the beginning that myspace, facebook, other services that want all your personal id, etc were bad news and never used those services. I won't be giving away my personal ID if youtube flags me as a child.

But I have used my credit/debit card online to buy games from steam/gog so if youtube accepts a credit/debit card as proof of adulthood (which I have heard is an option) then I guess I'd be okay with that. My parents have purchased youtube premium before so they might be okay.

If they require a selfie or id card/drivers license from me though, that's a hard pass.

My friend asked chatgpt to generate a fake ID image under the pretense of using it as an example of what an AI can produce, to use it to spot fakes, but chatgpt refused.
