Wind turbines do pose a threat to flying creatures. But they account for this by shutting them down at certain times. I know because I used to monitor a site. In that case, it was to protect bats.

I dunno what the hell he's talking about with the whales though.

Most likely ship sonar pinging. It's pretty damn loud/powerful unlike the whimpy sound effect movies/games use as a stand-in. If within a certain proximity can actually kill a human that's under water. As for whales/dolphins I'm unsure the extent of the harm.

That's the only connection I've got, since they have to see what's under the water before deploying them.

Either that or he watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Which is plausible after his other claim. Whales falling from the sky, clearly gonna land on a turbine.

I know he isn't, I'm just pointing out one of the logical routes. Which isn't even in the same zip code as Trump. I just know that around that time that was the big fuss/reasoning, that they spam sonar pings before/during construction and harm them.

He probably saw that somewhere.

I looked and am reminded Fox News was pushing that. So that's probably where he saw it. I still say they pinged them big wet bois.

I live near to this so it's local news to me. NJ was conducting surveys for offshore wind farms using sonar. For the duration of these surveys, dead whales kept appearing on the shores. When the surveys stopped, the dead whales stopped. There's various articles suggesting they weren't connected, but the circumstantial evidence is pretty convincing and it's unclear if the science simply hadn't caught up.

There's also plenty of politics involved. The energy company is pretty corrupt (or their contractors) and there's been some debate on solar power. Lots of wasted money on energy projects that went nowhere and now our rates are rising largely due to AI data centers.

But, of course, it's not actually the turbines killing the whales.

It is real, but the only reason he's exaggerating about windmills is he can't get Scotland to remove their wind farm off the coast of his Scotland golf course.

This doesn't surprise me at all. He says a ton of things that make absolutely no sense, while simultaneously believing he's the smartest person ever for saying it. "No one's ever asked this question before." Yeah, because it's a stupid question

No seriously, anyone who cares remotely about wildlife would vehemently oppose fossil fuels in every possible incarnation. If they cite environmental reasons to support fossil fuels, you can dismiss them on the spot.
