I really wanted to like BotW. But I think open world fatigue mixed with crappy weapon durability weakened that resolve and I ended up dropping it after the zora... titan... thing.

No dungeons, sorry TC. I gave it a fair crack in spite of it, but I couldn't get into them. Beat BotW, played a bit of TotK. Mainline Zelda seems to have moved on

The fashion is fun though. Especially if you amibo cheat in some of the older Link tunics/gear

Let's be clear, the game HAS dungeons. They're just not traditional dungeons and are essentially expanded shrines

Despite that, I generally enjoyed them. Both in BOTW and in TOTK. Its not my preferred way to do dungeons but I do like them

I agree. Glad the 2D-ish Zeldas haven't gotten the Assassin's Creed: Hyrule Edition treatment the 3D Zeldas got. Can't stand Open World games that are handled this way. Bring back the dungeons darn it!

It doesnt get better. Literally sell the game if the first couple hours doesn't grip you.

There's like 10 mainline Zeldas that followed the traditional dungeon format. Accept that that's what we're left with going forward. It's a good run all things considered.

there are dungeons, but they're pretty simplistic, they're designed like a few shrines stitched together

The final dungeon is a top 3 dungeon in the series tho, if you don't skip straight to the final boss

Tears' dungeons are better (and have GREAT leadups, usually better than the actual dungeons lol), but the final dungeon is eh

If you don't enjoy the open world aspect of the game, neither game is going to be for you. That's really all there is to it. That aspect is what defines both games. But it is interesting to see how polarizing that is for some people. I loved the open world in both of the games despite getting tired of it in other games.

BOTW has mostly puzzle dungeons but it also has one dungeon that taps into what BOTW is all about. And in my opinion it's one of the best dungeons in the series, despite it not being a "traditional" dungeon.

TOTK has dungeons that are closer to what you'd expect from Zelda, but none of them really stand out on their own. Generally the lead up to them is the fun part, though I think they all have pretty memorable, solid boss fights.

You could always just go back that to one later when you have more hearts and weapons. I did that one last even though the game kinda pushes you to do that one first.

it's so weird how they didn't even have repair kits or something as a consumable, or upgrades, or any way to hang on to weapons you like. but they'll add a stupid octorok that repairs your weapons if it sucks it up???? but they remove dupe glitches because it's not how you're supposed to play...

but they leave the stupid octorok that repairs your weapons?? just give us a normal fucking way to repair weapons!!

but what do they actually do? sell the switch 2 upgrades for $10 despite not adding any new content to either game

the new zelda games are just so bloated and padded out

something that would have taken a few minutes to do in a older zelda can now take hours

"oh there is something up this mountain" you would just quickly go up it or use a tool to get to the top or wtv

in this game you have to slowly manually free climb the mountain

all while the stamina bar makes it take longer

oh and rather than get heart pieces you have to take these orbs you get from shrines to a statue to upgrade your health

and the breakable weapons that are made of paper mache make combat just feel pointless

the lack of dungeon items removes that sense of "OH NOW I CAN GET THAT"

and the story is meh

the only thing i like is what it did with the gerudo and to a lesser extent the other races

There's like a million ways to circumvent climbing stuff in TOTK alone.

Also regarding the dungeon items, I find it interesting that nobody seemed to mind the usual progression getting shaken up in A Link Between Worlds. That was my biggest gripe with an otherwise really good game. Dungeons felt lacking when the required item to beat it is obtained before even entering. But that's a non-issue in BOTW and TOTK for me because of the open world and sandbox aspects of the games.

I wouldn't complain about it if the last "true" Zelda game didn't come out FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
If they were making both the open world type and the old school type of Zelda games, I would simply buy the old school type and keep my mouth shut about the open worlds
But they have abandoned the og way entirely
Skyward sword was the last one, and I repeat myself, it came out a decade and a half ago

Which is a fair point. But in any Zelda game the dungeons are the best part. That's the primary reason I play any Zelda game. Even in traditional Zelda games I feel too much time is spent outside the dungeons. I also don't really like crafting as a key game mechanic, or weapon breaking.

The game is immensely popular, but isn't for me.

You can be as reasonable as you want and it won't matter. There is always someone taking it personally when it comes to any criticism of nu-zelda, and what makes it even funnier is oftentimes they start lecturing you about the concept of a personal opinion as if it's still 2002 on here.
