I just checked: on the 2000-2024 chart I built, Final Fantasy X is ranked #245.

What the fuck lol

I did find myself wondering for a lot of the snubs if they were just removed because of your series restriction or if they didn't make the list because of some weird contingent of haters

Very, very cool list. SIGNALIS, 999, 13 Sentinels, Omori, 1000xResist, Fata Morgana, Umineko. I LOVE to see stuff like this make the list. Given that vibe though I'm surprised by the absence of, say, Oxenfree or Night in the Woods.

Oxenfree isn't in the top 1000 on the chart I made. Among all games it's #1625.

Painful to see #32 Thousand-Year Door miss the list because it's one spot below Galaxy, lol

I can respect the whole series limitation to induce more variety thing, but I really think Mario and Zelda are such prolific franchises that limiting them to just one entry creates some really odd effects - if I were going to make a top 100 list of the best games of the last 25 years it would basically be malpractice to not include at least 2-3 Mario and Zelda games and I don't care what the Nintendo haters have to say about it

And I guess I'm not surprised AAI2 is the #2 AA game there but I am a little disappointed by it

Resident Evil also quietly getting screwed although I personally wouldn't consider REmake or RE4make to be essential to a top 100 list (one version of RE4 obviously would be but not both)

I think that 1 per series is a good limit generally speaking, though the actual execution could've used more nuance. Like I think that Mario platformers and Mario RPGs are different enough that it can make sense to have both Galaxy and TTYD. And then on the other side of things, we shouldn't get all 4 of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring since it's clear that they're all part of the same "meta-series". Something like a soft limit of 1 and a hard limit of 2 for edge cases like those might be a good compromise.

Yeah I was never going to get the series limit perfect, haha. I just hope it didn't get in the way of enjoying the list!
