Just got to the overworld and it's blowing me away. This is the FFVII that I've always wanted. I thought part 1 was alright. Felt really constrained being in Midgar. But this, this is FFVII. If I get to spend a lot of time on the overworld I'll be happy.

Thats awesome! I never finished rebirth, so I started a new playthrough about a week ago. I really like how minor characters from the OG got fleshed out a bit, and yeah the overworld is really pretty with lots of things to find. Have fun!

I loved it. I really liked Remake, but Rebirth just completely overshadowed it for me. The worst part about it is it's almost too much content, but the side content and minigames were still really fun and not half-assed.

Don't worry, there's plenty to do in the overworld.

If you're just doing the story, you're looking at a solid 25-35 hours of story/gameplay. Doing most everything in a normal playthrough, looking around 100 hours. Going for platinum, 120+ hours depending on your skill level and if you wanna just look up Materia builds/guides for the post game content.

Definitely one game you're not going to want to try to 100%. The Overworld is filled with mini games and some of them have redundant rewards because they really want you to just pick and choose the ones you find fun and do those. Don't try to be a completionist, you will have less fun.

Please, please, please pace yourself. You're likely to get burnt out on the side content if you try to 100 percent an area before moving onward. I wish that the game did a better job of discouraging that because it's awesome and the main complaint lobbied against it - "too much side content and open world stuff" - is self inflicted by the player (myself included).

If you can do it without burning out, by all means. Some people have a really low tolerance for exploring though.

Absolutely. If you're having fun spending over 10 hours in an area before moving on, then by all means do that. Just don't ever feel like you have to play the game that way, because you can always come back and do the side stuff later. Might be nice to leave some stuff do do post-final boss anyway.

No lie, FF7 rebirth is probably like my 2nd of 3rd favorite game of all-time. They took my favorite final fantasy game FF7, and practically recreated it's world map as something you just walk around in. All the random lore you can learn about one or two screen towns/areas like kalm and under junon (seriously I read every single one of those lore updates you get via the region intel updates). The fact that kalm is this huge town in general, with people exercising, kids running aorund playing, bands playing etc.

Just seeing the old towns fully recreated was a real treat. When I first got control in FF7 remake and hoped off that train as cloud what is the first thing that I did?........I pointed the camera up so I can see underneath midgar's plates. Its something I wanted to do as a 14 year old playing FF7 for the first time, and FF7 remake lets me achieve that dream.

The devs being committed to actually keep all the *this is very minor game details, but still blocking them off anyway if you want to experience everything completely blind* vehicles in-tact like the buggy and tiny bronco compared to just being the FF10 style quick travel warping everywhere. (They also stated they fully intend to keep the highwind controllable in the final 3rd part). Nomura actually fighting to keep or make new silly shenanigans like red 13 riding a chocobo. (Everyone else wanted to just have him run alongside the chocobos). Ass-load of minigames/probably the most I have seen in a single jrpg ever. Continuing what FF7 remake started rebirth also has a massive soundtrack. Best combat system a final fantasy game came up with.

Queen's blood is easily final fantasy's best card minigame. Fort condor is also mad fun (which disappointingly was shrunken down for rebirth. I loved the intermission version though and hope it returns to this version of the game for the final remake part).

They made me want to play as goddamn cait sith. He was a perma-bench character for me in the original game. That is an achievement.

Yeah I am absolutely riding FF7 remake and rebirth like a rodeo show I don't give a shit because I'm probably the biggest FF7 remake and rebirth fanboy on this board. I cannot wait for part 3, lmao.

*Its my 3rd favorite game of all-time. My second favorite game is gears of war 3. Ah, gears of war 3 my beloved, how I wish I can play you as a beautiful remaster with the original unlocking system for new weapon skins and characters kept the same/no modern battlepass or loot box bull-shit.*

I'm playing it for the first time, myself. I'm in Ch4.
I've heard that it's easy to burn out on, especially for completionists, so I'm alternating Rebirth's chapters with Live A Live chapters.
And so far the combination is like... the greatest gaming experience ever.

I really loathed Remake. I think Midgar is one of the worst parts of FF7 to actually play through, so stretching that out to 40 hours was miserable.

Rebirth was a total 180. Actual explorable mini worlds was infinitely more fun, and felt like a real adventure with significantly less filler. I still had problems with it, but it was so much better than the predecessor.

Rebirth was very enjoyable, if FF insists on staying as action games, Rebirths systems and further iterations on it should absolutely be where they go with it, I doubt theyll go KHlike, as some people find it awkward.

Only thing I don't get is the combat. Is it expected that you juggle defence, synergies, party switching, assess, regular abilities, triangle move, healing, magic, and pretty much all of the combat mechanics? It's a bit overwhelming. I sort of wish they added the gambit system for the party members.

That won't work for FF7 remake and rebirth since the game expects you to be constantly swapping between your party members. The enemies will always aggro and beeline for your controlled character, and so the basic combat flow is supposed to be building up your ATB bars, using the various moves to hit weaknesses and then swap to someone else to use their ATB bars they built, build stagger (some characters actually specialize in this more over others. Like tifa is great at it), increase the damage multiplier for the stagger bar (or for barret, aerith and red 13, they actually have a lot of defensive moves that is good. Remember that life-saver move for barret when you eventually get it, the one where barret automatically blocks damage for you. This ability comes in clutch, lol), stun enemies, counter ranged attacks etc. Just solely controlling one character is actually playing these games wrong.

The game does not do a good job explaining the difference between synergy attacks and synergy skills and so being confused about this one is actually understandable.

Here is a real short clip going over the difference between synergy skills and synergy attacks:

Cool, that makes a bit more sense. Also, some enemies are tough. They just go crazy on me and hit for high dmg. I'm guessing I need to focus a lot more on defending and then counterattacking?

Do not go to the board here. It's just a circle jerk of people who hate it. I'm glad you liked it because FFVII was my favorite game of all time growing, I got it a few months after it came off and Rebirth is better.

It's everything I wanted Remake to be. It's just so perfect for me.

I still wouldve preferred classic combat, but it was a really fun game and possibly the most hours Ive ever gotten out of a single run of a game. (Id have to check if BG3 - which I havent actually finished yet - tops it. Nothing else even comes close, Witcher 3 is probably next and would only be like half.)

Yeah that part was fun. That whole costa del sol to corel desert section. Mount corel is up that as one of my favorite jrpg game dungeons. They did a real good job with this dungeon for the remake imo.
