Which is the worst game in the franchise?

Maybe one of the gacha games?

Mainline series? FF2.

Non-mainline? Probably All the Bravest.

2, 13, 10, 15

Haven't played 16 or the MMOs.

10, 13 and 15 coulda been some different piece of media and people who like those games would've liked it just the same.

Everyone craps on II but it reviewed very positively on release. I enjoyed the Pixel Remaster a fair bit, but the NES one would've been a lot more frustrating for sure.

LOL yeah ok. In a world where FF15 exists, FF16 is certainly not the worst.

Noctis having zero personality. Prompto dying at the start of every fight. The fight system being "hold down the X button".

I remember an LP of Famicom FF2 where the LPer combined several buggy as hell spells in order to successfully bounce Toad onto the final boss, killing it instantly on turn 1.
It's supposed to be immune, you see, but, well, it makes FF1 seem comparatively well-coded.

It was glorious. FF2 has some pretty fascinating ideas, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired and so much just doesn't work at all except in stupid and unintended ways that are mostly useless.
It was perfectly competent for its time, but it's definitely aged like milk.

It is most likely some dogwater spinoff like this.

But for me it will always be 13. FFXIII is fundamentally broken on a base design level. The story is dysfunctional. The worldbuilding is nonsensical and filled with pointless window dressing. The characters are tropey cutouts based on the kinds of characters people liked in other final fantasy games.

I am convinced 13 is the reason why gamers convinced themselves they hated JRPGs up until around when Bravely Default came out.

FFXV is not a good game at all but it is kind of a vibe which gives it something at least.

I've played one two four five six seven eight nine ten ten-2 twelve and sixteen. And tactics.

Ff12 is a slog. The characters are flat, the story isn't compelling, the gameplay is passive. Ten-2 was cringe and a huge disappointment after ten but the job system was fun at least. I vote twelve as worst

Of the ones I've played 15, nothing about it was good in any conceivable way, the plot is flimsy and yet expects you to be totally engrossed, the party is bland and poorly acted, the open world is poorly made with barely anything other than fetch quests and driving the car was an entirely on rails experience until post release updates.

Worst of the game basically has plot-made contrivances to make you buy the DLC.

Final Fantasy 9.

100% because of the ass pull "final boss" that was Necron. It ruined my entire experience of the game, so much so that I destroyed the Playstation discs 5 minutes after the credits were done rolling. I frisbee'd them into a concrete wall until they shattered into pieces. That's the only video game in my 30 years of playing that I've broken on purpose.

Never before or since have I ever felt so let down by something I enjoyed that much. To whoever was responsible for Necron's implementation: "Fuck you." - from the bottom of my heart, forever.

I'm ngl I don't understand why people hate Necron so much, but then again, my first FF was IV, which also has a final boss that is supposed to be the embodiment of an abstract concept, so I guess my expectations were different. I do think it should have been Hades instead, but Necron is okay. Mostly he's important for the plot because Kuja has to be faced with the party's same desire to live that he holds, and thus show that Zidane is right to show kindness to him at the end.

Anyway, I might get shit for this but for me it's the first game. I've played FF1 several times and, like most entries that kickstart a series, it does absolutely nothing that other entries don't do better and I have no drive whatsoever to ever boot it up again. Yes, that includes 2. 2 has a better story and more interesting mechanics (did they work well in every version of 2? no. But I haven't played every version of 2 so I don't care- I'm speaking more generally rather than picking out specific versions).

Necron came out of nowhere like (Naruto spoilers)Kaguya came out of nowhere. No hints whatsoever.

legit, please try playing 13-2, even if it involves skipping all story shit. the story is dogshit in a different way, but the combat opens up way faster with a lot more actual choice involved, and being focused on two permanent party members plus a configurable monster changes the game's entire dynamic

ff13 might be the game i hate the most because who the fuck would play 13-2 after it

For me, it's probably 12. It's one of the few I just can't bring myself to finish. I think one of my attempts got as far as my dumb character running around while telling folks "I'm captain Bosch!!" before I decided I just wasn't having fun and stopped.

The PC version of FFX is definitely better. Not worth shelling $30 or $20 if you disliked it already, but hey, it goes on sale for $9 and has both X and X-2. Game's still paced slow as hell, but it's got turbo! Don't think I could handle FFX today without the port's features.
