July 20 (Reuters) - Alaska Airlines (ALK.N) has requested for a ground stop for all its mainline aircraft, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) status page showed on Sunday.
The company also requested for ground stops of all Horizon Air flights, the regional subsidiary operating Alaska Airlines flights.
The FAA status page showed all destinations being impacted by the ground stop of Alaska's mainline aircraft, and Horizon's ground stop.
Alaska Air Group maintains an operational fleet of 238 Boeing 737 aircraft, and 87 Embraer 175 aircraft, according to its website.

No reason given yet, but on their website they just say they're having IT issues.

Article in the OP has been updated:

"At approximately 8 p.m. Pacific on Sunday (0300 GMT on Monday), Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that's impacting our operations. We requested a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska and Horizon Air flights," Alaska said in an emailed statement to Reuters on Sunday evening.

The news of Alaska's IT issues comes at a time when tech companies Google and Palo Alto Networks have warned of the "Scattered Spider" hacking group's interest in the aviation sector.
Canada's WestJet Airlines was struck by an unspecified cyber incident in June, while Australia's Qantas (QAN.AX) experienced a data breach in July where a cyber hacker accessed the personal information of millions of customers.
It remains unclear whether Alaska's outage is related to Microsoft stating on Sunday that there were "active attacks" on its server software used by government agencies and businesses.

Hawaiian Airlines was also attacked not too long ago.

The verbiage on this one set me off because my company went through the same thing, and we had to field it as "IT issues" and "Server/Network outage".

Pretty sure this will become more and more commonplace, and probably instrumental towards something else to come.

Alaska Airlines: We think there's something wrong. We better ground all aircraft so nobody gets hurt.

Boeing: Numbers? Shut up nerd. It's an airplane; it flies.
