Families of the Uvalde school shooting victims are suing video game and media companies, alleging the shooter was exposed to violence through those platforms before carrying out one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history.

The families have sued Activision, the maker of the first-person military shooter game Call of Duty, Meta and one other company, reported the Los Angeles Times.
They have filed claims for negligence, aiding and abetting and wrongful death.

To put a finer point on it: Defendants are chewing up alienated teenage boys and spitting out mass shooters, the complaint stated, according to the outlet.

What a fucking load of bullshit. It's the year of our Lord 2025 and people still think videogames are the cause of mass shooters. It's the fucking guns and the fucking gun culture in this fucking country. Call of Duty is a game that is released around the WORLD in DOZENS of countries, and yet none of those other countries have the problem with gun violence that the US does.

Propaganda and training programs aren't synonyms. The latter usually contains a lot of the former but the reverse is not similarly true.

What a fucking load of bullshit. It's the year of our Lord 2025 and people still think videogames are the cause of mass shooters. It's the fucking guns and the fucking gun culture in this fucking country. Call of Duty is a game that is released around the WORLD in DOZENS of countries, and yet none of those other countries have the problem with gun violence that the US does.

Every country contains people who possess the mentality common to mass shooters.

Not every country gives them easy access (the right, even!) to guns and ammunition, while fostering a culture where firearms are magical totems of freedom.

I understand their frustration at nothing being done to prevent this from happening again, but blaming video games isn't going to remedy the situation.

Blame those who can do something about the problem, but either refuse to or actively work to make the problem worse.

Video game companies didnt arm the shooter or whatever. That is all. I am not blaming the parents for their deaths in a literal sense, although I think the lawsuit is stupid.

Good point, I definitely was guilty of being baited by the headline. Gun culture in America and especially Texas is also a huge ass problem. I dont think these lawsuits ever go anywhere sadly.

They should sue Abbott and the government for allowing guns to be so easily obtained. It would have more merit than this same song and dance again.

I feel for them but I thought we were past this.

I am never, ever going to blame families who are grieving like they must be. This happens all the time after a monstrous tragedy. People lash out in their grief, and try to explain the unexplainable. These grieving parents, confronting the unimaginable, can say and do as they wish to grapple with it.

But video games and media are not the cause of gun violence. We have a gun problem in America because of the easy availability of guns. Because bad faith elements of our government have taken an Amendment written for muskets and local armies and purposefully turned it into a firearm free for all-and a cash cow and wedge issue for them.

These families should sue the NRA. We have gun violence because we have guns everywhere and corrupt individuals want to keep it that way, not because of media.

But I refuse to do anything but feel for these families. I hope they lose in court, but I cannot imagine their grief and anger.

it's not unexplainable though. it is actually quite easily explained. mass shootings like this that happen orders of magnitude more often in the US compared to every other country in the world because the US is only country in the world that has more guns in it than people and where the right to own a gun is baked into the country's DNA (not really but that's how it's been interpreted).
