Now that I actually have the NSO expansion pack I figured I'd go play through minigame island.

These are uh, terrible. Apparently the 5 minigames I remember being good are the only good minigames.

Mario Party 1 exists solely to destroy families and cause stigmata.

I can't remember any mini games id call bad in it, aside from Shy Guy Wind-Up...Which gave me a palm blister and broke it in the exact same moment.

I remember renting in from Blockbuster back in the day since I owned and loved Mario Party 2, and it was absolute dogshit.

Mario Party 1 actively hates the people that play it. I don't know how I played the shit out this game as kid. I think that's actually why I skipped Mario Party 2 and came back when 3 dropped as the best fucking one in the series.

I like 1 because it has its own charm to it but it is so incredibly obvious that pretty much any of the other games in the series massively improved upon it.

2 and 3 we're the best in the series. Then from 4 and onward, they had more of those stupid minigames where you had to press a single button repeatedly in order to win.

Tug-O-War was the mini game that kept me from fully completing Mini Game Island back then.

For Mario Party 2, I couldn't finish Mini Game Coaster back then because of Mecha Marathon.

Yeah mario party 1 fucked up all our palms something serious, and mario party 2 really wasn't too much better on the analog stick rotation front.

It wasn't until mario party 3 that nintendo dialed it the fuck back on that. Love me some mario party 3.

My palm is indestructible but unfortunately my N64 controllers were not

I love that it was so bad back in the day that Nintendo sent out free gloves to everyone who bought the game. Even on Switch Online, if you start up Mario Party 1 it puts up a warning message telling people not to use their palms for the games.

It's a flawed game, but it's still my favorite in the series.

Mario Party 2 did not have joystick rotating mini-games. The worst game was the mecha wind-up game, where you had to mash the A and B buttons.

I remember rubbing the skin off of my palm playing Mario Party 1. Then I went to a water park with little to no skin on my palm and that hurt like hell every time I got in the water, lol.

I had the best times playing this with 2 and 3 with my girlfriend and all my friends. Often hours a night,
yes wed veto g the bruises and blister in the center of our palms.

it was awesome because half the people I played with werent gamers yet we all had a blast and on equal playing fields

Yeah, they learned their lesson from the first game about those minigames.

It's always been my top MP game. I love the minigames (except the rotation ones which to be fair are a big deal breaker so I totally understand) and it has the best maps because they actually feel like they're in the Mario world and I dig they're themed around the characters' personalities, many later titles kinda lost that vibe. Also I have huge nostalgia for all those early N64 era models.

I liked some of the minigames in it, but even back then I remember we went back to it after 3 came out and oof. You really start to realize how crummy/lopsided some games were, not to mentioned the analog wreckers I honestly didn't mind.
