For one, I'm not going to pretend that I'm more witty or clever than everyone else in the world. There's always going to be gaps in what knowledge or experience I currently have. If users in this board feel like they're smarter than everyone else, then that's their choice. I just have to wonder why they of all people would waste time here instead of doing more meaningful things.

It could be that TC is referring to knowledge, wisdom, or a combination of both.

I'd say more knowledgeable than smarter. My brains chooses to hold on to a lot of barely useful information.

Theres different types of intelligence. Im good at thinking through complex problems but I lack something like street smarts and quick wits

The people on this board are generally university educated or have achieved professional certification in their field etc, I would expect most users here to be above average

True. The average is quite low.

On the one hand, ask this question to any group and of course most think they're above average because of ego. On the other hand, could the average American handle how much reading is needed to be here?

I did take a certified IQ test a couple weeks ago. Similar score to the one I took 20 years ago.

I dont feel like I am, but people compliment me on my intelligence frequently enough that maybe I should listen to them. Whats more likely, everyone is just flattering me, or maybe I do have some smarts?

The number of people out there who are incredibly stupid is immense. I dont consider myself to be a genius or anything, but based on IQ scores, Im above average. My level of education would suggest that Im likely above average too.

Dont get me wrong, those arent perfect indicators, and Ive certainly met many people who I consider to be much more intelligent than myself, but I think its fair to say that Im more intelligent than most other people.

I'd certainly like to believe I was. And reading the news certainly makes me feel like I am. But realistically I'm probably middle of the road.

Depends, everyone has different levels of intelligence. Am I more well rounded than the average person? Absolutely. But there's lots I don't know and I'm learning every day. Without ego I'd say I'm maybe in the above average intelligence range from what others tell me, but I don't think I'm anywhere near genius levels
