I haven't dated anyone in a year and a half now. i'm pretty nervous. what do i even talk about? is kissing on the first date normal? second?! ugh

Is this a blind date where you know nothing about the person? Talk about your interests, their interests, ask probing questions. Get a feel for the person. Don't overthink it. You're just two people. Kissing depends on the people. But if you're not sure, ask them what the title of that song the crab from the Little Mermaid sang was. "Kiss the girl?" If you insist!

Just talk about things you like that are interesting and might find common ground. And talk about some of your life, like growing up, schooling and career. Stay mostly positive on a first date. Be interested in what they have to say.

Kissing on a first date? I always did if it went well and seems to be chemistry. Here is my advice on how to do that. At the end of the date, I would give her a hug (that is completely normal), then while still hugging, I pull back my head and look at her. Our faces are now inches apart, and if she also looks right back at me, or even better glances at my lips, I lean in and hope she does as well.

Usually worked really well, sometimes with her making the kissing very enthusiastic. A couple times it was admittedly awkward and just a weird peck. But better to go for it IMO, because so many women just see a guy in platonic sense if nothing really ramps up the chemistry.

girl i meant on hinge. we've talked on and off since last week

I have zero experience but movies are probably the easiest subject to talk about. Also I wouldn't kiss on the first date unless the signs were super obvious and she was being really flirty the entire night.

I honestly don't know. Obviously I always got enthusiastic verbal consent for sexual acts, but a kiss at the end of a clearly good date? Feels awkward and like it could run counter to the mood. Then again, it depends on how you do it. Asking could be viewed as charming and cute. This all really depends on your type of charm and how you two interact.

But bottom line, kissing on a first date can be good, but there is a small percentage who would never do so. You can almost get a sense of that though if you are intuitive. Personally, I'd rather take a chance than lose a potential connection to being viewed platonically. If you attempt and she doesn't want to, she will just politely stop you. Super awkward but you are on a date, and that wouldn't be considered harassment unless she is making it clear she isn't interested and you pursue anyway. Take rejection politely.

Congrats on the date. Perfectly normal to be nervous since you're getting back out there for the first time. Some general conversation topics can be: music, TV/movies, hobbies, favorite foods, traveling, dream vacations, pets, bucket lists, etc.

And generally, you don't want to just rapid fire off general topic starter questions. You want to let the conversations flow by feeding off of the answers they give you.

Like if you ask about their favorite music genres and they name some genres you also like, then hone in on that. "Oh you like Jazz? Who are some of your favorite artists? I really like Boney James and Salvalai."

And a quick kiss at the end of the date can work if the date went well. During the hug, pull your head back a little and go in slowly for the kiss. But if they pull back then abort lol

If the date goes well, go for the kiss. bsp's method of pulling back from a hug seems like a good way to go about it. I generally don't go for a kiss on the first date and have been told I should have several times. Apparently it can come across as not being interested.

And yeah women will definitely bail if they don't feel like you're interested. Made that mistake multiple times back when I was still actively dating. But that was from me not making moves after multiple dates with the same woman. So don't panic too much about the kiss in the first date.
