The member broadcasters of the EBU had a huge meeting today to discuss Israels future in the Contest. Multiple countries openly called for their expulsion.

Germany, which is one of the biggest economical patrons of the EBU, as well as Switzerland which is where the EBU HQ is located and Austria (which won this year and is therefore hosting Eurovision 2026) prevented Israel from being expelled.

Now we know which countries to blame for Israels participation.

I feel like Germany has a bit of a PR issue keeping them from treating Israel like the genocidal war state it is.

Yes, that is why they are one of Israels biggest supporters here in Europe.

I mean.... not for nothing, but Germany kind of doesn't want to be accused of anything remotely approaching anti-semitism, the same goes for Austria especially as their collective myth of being the Nazis first victim is obviously subsiding now that people are actually looking into their dirty laundry, and the Swiss made way too much money off Nazi gold to really have a moral leg to stand on.

Now obviously, I'm not saying criticism of Israeli foreign policy is antisemitic, but it's pretty undeniable that that charge is levied as a weapon in that fashion, and those three arguably are the absolute weakest to it.

Understandable for these 3 countries tbh.

You raise fair points which probably are the reasons behind their stance. But as a huge Eurovision fan it is frustrating seeing Israel keep being invited back since it tarnishes the reputation of the show and they keep doing shady voting campaigns since 2024. An Israeli win would kill the contest and it has aired every year since 1956 except for 2020.

Backing another genocide is soooo much better apparently.

They need to get over themselves and look at the big picture.

Maybe, but that's not a PR fight they want to engage over a song contest.

They have been competing since the 70s since they have full EBU membership.
