Stop putting Gacha mechanics relating to playable characters in non-mobile games, especially games you actually buy that aren't based around micro transactions!!!

Someone at Nintendo is gonna see this topic and think "We need to add micro transactions to full priced games."

I feel like this is okay because you don't have to pay for Kamek orbs and it's easy to figure out what tracks unlock the characters. You just have to think about what environment that character would be in, and race there until you're hit by the Kamek.

You're not going to unlock the Dolphin in Bowser's Castle, for example.

What is it? Not followed Mortal Kombat in ages, but I seem to remember some dodgy stuff in recent releases.

I spent so long trying to get the fish bones just now, and didn't get the dumb kamek orb once, and that was even with the 2-player, no coms strat others have used. This item is way too rare tbh.

Rare drops in games have been a thing forever.

I feel like that is the most inoffensive item and aspect about MK World

I'm pretty sure I unlocked all the enemies by simply playing Knockout and people using it on me.

I seriously doubt that. Youre almost certainly missing a few without realizing it.

Yes, some of the Kamek unlocks are common are will be unlocked just be playing. But some of them only occur in specific tracks or even specific intermissions. (One of which only appears in VS/online.) Plus Kamek is a rare item and it doesnt always hit you, and even if it does, it doesnt always transform you into the character you need.

I guarantee nobody unlocks all the characters without looking up a guide and then grinding for the last few. Because the odds of happening upon them all randomly are astronomically low.

I refuse to grind for these things so i will probably get the last four by complete coincidence in online races two years from now.

the method to unlocking characters is pointlessly obfuscated and dragged out, the item itself is dogshit and ranges from completely useless to literally impossible to avoid, but only fucks over the people in podium, doesn't help the person who used it back in 18th at all when all the obstacles disappear by the time the people in 6th and beyond get to them

kamek should not have been demoted to an item, any time i get this piece of shit, i was begging for shrooms instead

Maybe it's because I don't feel like I need all characters and costumes unlocked as soon as possible, but I like the Kamek orb. It's a fun little thing when it happens to see if you are going to get a new character, but otherwise the stage hazards it creates are a fun new thing. Though maybe it isn't super helpful for the person using it. And like someone else said, rare drops have always been a thing. Is this even considered gacha when you can't pay for more chances?

it's not even gacha or "rare unlocks," it's just based on where the item is used. that's it. it's not like random loot drops

I had no idea who Kamek was, and I see MK I think mortal kombat more than Mario kart which I havent played in years either.

I have no idea what Kamek is and MK to me is associated with Mortal Kombat.

Kamek sounds like a Mortal Kombat name, honestly.

Yeah, tbf, MK is usually used to abbreviated Mortal Kombat, so I see the confusion. Kamek may be a Mario character, but he's not on the level of the top-tiers in just being a known character around the block.

MKW is a better abbreviation

This is the strat I had to use also for unlocking some of them. It took me all day to get my last 4-5 characters doing this lol

I want to amend my statement. I think the unlocking mechanic is stupid. I think the item itself is cool within the context of how it can affect the race. I wish it would be less rare so it happened more often.

I just checked. I'm at 7/11 which honestly isn't bad at all. I thought this was for every Mario baddie.
