Here we have a spiritual successor to your petty grievances in media. Our new topic is the most mind numbingly stupid, self defeating, or infuriating arguments you have heard. (Reminder not to be overtly political)

During the height of COVID-19, a member of my countys school board delivered the following quote: If God wanted us all to wear masks, we would be born with them on our faces.

That goes beyond not wanting to mask and is one of the stupidest things Ive heard. We are not born with clothing, yet this lady wears clothes. This person has never advocated for public nudity or spoken out against clothing and they are most likely not nudists in the privacy of their home. But even if they were, they should be able to recognize there are valid reasons to wear clothes despite not being born that way.

Why do people make stupid arguments and refuse to change their stance upon rebuttal? I sometimes try to get into their head and it's hard.

Like, I can understand not thinking something through and then going "oh, shit" when proven wrong. But some people aren't experiencing that

Those- I always assume they're either not too bright, being deceptive, or have some really wacky values.

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

I've seen this image used to talk about how hard Lebron's competition was in the Finals. Aside from obvious generational differences, scoring not being the only thing that matters, and 25 being an extremely arbitrary number (Clyde Drexler averaged 24.8 in 1992, Karl Malone averaged 25.0 in 1998 which I guess doesn't count as "more than"):

- Three of Kobe's finals opponents (2008 Celtics, 2009 Magic, 2010 Celtics) beat Lebron's team in the playoffs
- Lebron's two most lopsided losses were against the Spurs (2007, 2014) and yet there are no Spurs on the list
- By this logic, the 2020 Heat are a better team than the 2014 Spurs and 2016 Warriors
- Lebron has a 2-2 record against so-called "bad competition"
- The 3-1 comeback in 2016 is not impressive because the 2016 Warriors aren't a good team
- Lebron himself has failed to average 25 twice (2007, 2011) which means he himself is also bad competition
- Lebron has had more teammates (4) score 25 PPG or more than Kobe (3) and Jordan (0) combined

So yeah, if you actually believe that PPG is all that matters it makes Lebron look worse if anything!

Just to be clear, YOU'RE not the one saying this, right? That's a "by their logic" thing?

Oh yes definitely, I was pointing out how absurd the logic must be for the 2016 Warriors to be considered bad competition

Maybe try playing some defense, LeBron, that's what that graphic tells me

On a related note, I do kinda hate the rings culture logic of "more championships = better player," especially in team sports

This was intentionally manipulative but putting it here anyway. So as kids, Id go to my cousins house and my cousins would say they should decide X thing (what to play next, I dont know) because it was their house.

Any time they were over at my house, they would say they should decide X thing because they were the guests. I did eventually call that out and it stopped

The more players on the starting lineup the less championship should matter for discussion of who is the better player.

It's especially insane in football where top players are often on the field for less than half the game.
