I think it's somewhat helpful, but I also dislike the idea of "Others have it worse so don't complain".

I can appreciate that we all live in our own bubbles, whose realities we can't escape, but yea, it really helps to have perspective.

also, because other people live in their own bubbles, there's a limit comes to their sympathies; either because they might not be able to relate, have their own stuff going on, and/or something else.

and I feel like, showing gratitude, concern/appreciation for others can go a lot farther for both you and those in question more than feeling sorry for yourself (I mean a general "you").

I don't think you need to feel grateful that you are not suffering from a negative (terminally illness).

But it is good to acknowledge the actual positives.

Yes. Kindness is counterculture.

Most definitely. Practicing gratitude, assuming positive intent, and just trying to enjoy the little things can dramatically improve one's life. It is possible to rewire your brain to be more positive and happy.

I think people have seen me call out many on CE regarding their negativity, and this is why.

I'd say more to practice optimism rather than gratitude. I don't mean in the sense of "Hey, it could be worse and it could get better!" but more in the sense of looking for ways to make things better rather than wallowing in despair. I think it's good to ground yourself compared to others, but that doesn't invalidate one's struggles either.
