I feel like this needs to be addressed as well. I believe this kind of mentality and attitude has contributed to your current situation and I would advise working though this as well.

Rid yourself of that mentality. Your (all of us) brain is going to use it to justify horrible decisions .

If you want to do something, do it. But don't tell yourself it's because you "deserve it".

My wife and I even questioned if we should buy it at launch and we are upper middle class. It is very expensive for not much return at this point.

Being happy and spending your earnings on things you like, while important, is honestly secondary to your needs, and based on your previous posts where...

1. Your boss was threatening to fire you for low productivity.
2. You live with your ex-girlfriend still, where the whole situation and things surrounding it is severely damaging to your mental health.
3. You have a dependant, your brother who can't take care of himself.

You mentioned that you've been through a lot and you feel like you deserve a Switch 2, but you know what you deserve more than that? A stable job that you may or may not love. A home you feel safe in. A life where you don't have to worry about where your next meal is coming from, or how you're going to take care of your family.

You are an adult. If you run into financial issues because you had a Switch 2 you will probably regret it anyways. Not saying you don't buy things with debt, it's how the world works right now, but the Switch 2 isn't what you put yourself in debt for. There will almost always certainly be a Switch 2 to purchase from somewhere.There's no rush and I think you're experiencing FOMO. Mario Kart World isn't worth you struggling to make ends meet.

All the best, not trying to make you feel bad or anything like that. Just don't want you making a decision that will inevitably lead to regrets.

I never buy games at full price. My rule these days is to wait until it's on sale for $20 or up to $35 for a GOTY edition with all the dlc stuff. Course Nintendo tax would have me bump up those numbers a bit or just buy preowned. Could I afford to buy all of my games day 1 at full price? Yes I could but why would I? Regardless of being able to afford them or not, they general have deep discounts a yearish after release. There's so many games in existence now that you can get lost digging into the catalogs of previous console gens for the rest of your life.

TC's "deserve" comment is entitlement and the need to Keep Up with the Joneses. The Internet has skewed TC's view of how many people actually have Switch 2s and how many people are in his boat of wanting one but unable to afford one.

Best case scenario: he doesn't like the answers he's getting, but knows he can't defend himself.

Worst case scenario: a lot of this saga is bullshit.

Not sure if this has been touched on in the topic, but generally you want to finance something that has return value. Financing a house is a place to live and can build wealth. Financing a car helps you get and maintain higher paying jobs. Financing a game console doesn't build anything.

On top of that, Affirm/Klarna or other Buy Now Pay Later apps don't have a positive effect on your credit and can only hurt your credit. This is because they are not regulated like regular loans and do not need to report that you've made payments on time.

I would suggest you avoid buying things with Affirm/Klarna or other Buy Now Pay Later apps.

He was afraid to look because the number of responses it got so fast, but I relayed some of it to him on Discord and I think I mostly talked him out of it, plus the thing he was looking at was actually a Switch 1 and not 2 so the whole thing is pretty much moot. There's some misunderstandings in here like the vet thing and him being threatened with being fired, but yeah still not a good idea right now.

Honestly, I would say exactly the same about a Switch as a Switch 2. He has higher priorities.

He already has a Switch 1, it's just that he mistook the thing on Amazon for a Switch 2 so this whole idea of his is not even possible anyway. It sounds like he's not in the mood to come here right now because his ex is acting like a bitch to him again. That and I think the way people accuse this of not even being real upsets him. I've always told him that he posts here WAY too much about his life and the stuff like there being a open relationship sounds like CE memes so I guess I can't blame some of you, but I've known him for 20 years and unfortunately this stuff is very real.

Rent and/or necessary purchases. I can't remember the details, but people have PMed him multiple times with money or Venmo or free food gift cards. And then he spends money on new Nintendo games.

Not saying the problems weren't real, but once the problem has passed, he spends instead of saving or buying things he needs to improve.

I feel the same way. I keep trying to think of ways to buy it. Affirm is the easiest and it's how I got my PC.

I wouldn't know how to get it though because you probably can't find it anywhere.

I wish only the best for him, but he needs to focus on some serious life decisions and then hopefully he can then starting buying this stuff.

Ah, ok. He thought he saw a deal for the Switch 2, but it turned out to be just the Switch.

I've always taken his posts at face value, but his absence here did look a little suspicious.

He has always got good advice and a sympathetic hearing here from other posters, with some taking the time to search for ways to help him, and even sending him gifts.

I suspect he finds it difficult to come to this thread because he knows he's letting himself down a bit. That's understandable, and recognising it at all is a good first step.

Right now, he needs to focus on work and putting money aside. That is the route out of his problems. Not videogames.

His gf came into a large amount of money from social security and bought it for him something. He's definitely made some poor decisions (his gf/ex too really, he's only half of the issue) but I don't believe he's so malicious so that he comes on here and directly spends CE money on games.

Okay then lol

If the TC is struggling financially, then I recommend not to get the Switch 2. First he should focus on the things that he needs, then he can focus on the things that he wants.
There is no rush in getting the Switch 2, it isn't like it will be too late to buy the games later on. If the TC has other system, it is better to play those instead. Remember we don't need to have the latest system to have fun.

Remember just because you can buy the Switch 2, it doesn't mean you should if that will cause financial trouble.

I didn't read anything beyond the first post and when I posted, I wasn't aware that everyone was going all big brother on the TC. I'm so out of the loop lol.

If he told you that in confidence you should have kept it to yourself.

yeah, I'm totally out of the loop. I can see why people are chastising him for it.

That being said, I'm the same way, and I decided to get mine with affirm. My financial situation isn't that bad, I just cut a few things out of my budget to make up for the payments.
