29 years old and around 230 lbs. I was always skinny growing up and I thought I was invincible throughout my 20s eating fast food left and right, but at least I had a highly physical job with a lot of heavy lifting to balance it out. Now I have a less active physical job (Food service) and still eating fast food at least 3 to 4 times a week. Recently however I can actually feel my stomach stretch out and hardened belly fat no doubt thanks to my crappy diet. For the first time in my life I actually wanna go to a gym, but saying is a lot different from doing. Anyone have a similar experience?

I struggled to gain weight all throughout my teen years, but was also constantly active as I played basketball daily. Once that stopped around my early to mid 20s, I definitely had to be more aware of my eating habits as I didn't have sports to balance it anymore, plus the slowing of my metabolism as I got older. All that said, when I maintain a calorie deficit and even moderate exercise, the weight melts off. I'll be 40 next month so I'm happy my metabolism still works.

Exercise is hard to get into and maintain if it's not your drug of choice, so to speak. I look for things to motivate me to work out, like setting up a space at home that feels welcoming for exercising and looking online of people's before and after photos. I haven't done it in a while, but I'll also sign up for races and things to motivate me to get in shape. I ran the Tough Mudder for a second time about eight years ago when I felt I was getting too fat. It's a 10-12 mile obstacle course, so to finish in a respectable time you have to be in pretty decent shape.
