He took drugs due to his wife going through a terminal illness I think. Then he got addicted and fucked himself over, had to go to rehab. Since then he's even more unhinged. >_>

Nah, he's always had a Christian slant to his "teachings." He'll wiggle around a lot, but the bottom line is that he wants society to be hierarchical and Christian. But he knows the Christian brand is tainted, hence the wiggling-around and refusal to admit his own personal stance.

He wears ambiguity like a shield, but that crumbles the moment you call out his bluff like Parker did. If he's not an atheist and he's not a theist, then he's nothing and his ideas aren't worth discussing.

I think it was some experimental/emergency Russian treatment too, so I won't be surprised of some sequelae on his psyche

I think Peterson thinks western christian society is superior or something but does he have any doctrine of it he himself follows? It never came up before as far as I know. His book about how to live a better life, I didn't read it but all the summarization seemed like BS he made up that had nothing Christian in it, which if he was it probably would have.

But I do remember longtime ago he was all about preventing the fall of western society from the woke liberals or something.
Similar when Joe or Musk says "I am christian now" but don't actually go to church or do anything really to follow the teaching of Jesus. Like I get that this type of extreme lazy Christian exists among normal people but for these guys it just feels like another level of grift.

Like if atheist on this panel asked him to recite the story of the gospel he probably couldn't actually do it.

Theism/Atheism is a binary. You're either convinced that a god exists or you're not convinced.

Agnosticism is about whether you think a god can be proven to exist or not. That's why it's used as a modifier to (a)theism (eg. Agnostic atheist or gnostic atheist).

And Pantheism posits that God is (a nebulous) presence in everything, which intrinsically carries the belief in a God ie. Theism.

Alt right? The full video is on youtube. I watched it all and all the atheists were great and made good points that he couldn't answer. There was one atheist there that might have been an alt-righter. An older dude who said he agreed with JBP on many things.

Yea, I wasn't offering much good faith in Peterson's true positions, and that comes from a cynical side because he seems to be constantly arguing in bad faith as well. He absolutely holds some set of beliefs but likes to conceal them. Whether that's because he knows showing his hand would lead to deconstructing his arguments or because he lacks the prose to properly express them is another argument (though I'm currently convinced it's the former given the nature of right-wing grifts in general).

At a cursory glace Peterson may be invoking ideas from omnism, but he specifically centers his dialogue around the Christian God. You could grant him that "the existence of so many religious beliefs speaks to a deeper understanding of human nature and society at large", but a) he would have to say that himself and b) it's still not admissible evidence that a god exists.

This was really weird. Did he have an existential crisis in regards to his identity before or during this debate?

He has stated that he believes Jesus is God, and that he believes in the resurrection where Jesus rose from the tomb. He doesn't like the "Christian" label because he knows that the brand is poisoned, and therefore attaching himself to Christianity would poison his brand by association. But semantics and word-games aside, he is functionally a Christian. He supports and propagates a Christian worldview.

The fundamental baseline is differentiation between knowledge and belief, and what you're claiming.

Yeah, kind of, except more extreme. Usually those independent centrists won't just come out and admit "I love Donald Trump," but Peterson does admit that he thinks Jesus is God. So his "maybe I'm a Christian, maybe I'm not" shtick is purely a semantic word-game.

Oversimplification here but:
Gnostic Theist - firm on their belief God exists.

Agnostic Theist - believe in God, but acknowledge they dont actually have proof what that God is. They acknowledge God is an unknown and unknowable. But to be clear, they lean towards a God existing, and just more open to genuinely accepting they may be wrong on what that deity is or if a deity even exists.

Agnostic Atheist - Do not believe in God, but also acknowledge relatively the same thing as Gnostic Theist. They acknowledge they cant prove he doesnt exist, and even if this deity does exist they also challenge its existence in relation to our current understanding of a deity. But to be clear, they lean towards a God not existing, and just more open to genuinely accepting they may be wrong, and more willing to entertain a deity might exist.

Gnostic Atheist- firm on their belief God doesnt exist.

Agnosticism has always been a common defense FOR atheism, long before T.H. Huxley coined that word. He apparently got everyone believing agnosticism is exclusive of atheism (and theism) when it's not and never was.
