An improvement over Sapphire/Ruby that allows you to get both box art Legendary Pokemon from those games. Also generally improves the plot by showing both Team Aqua/Magma as antagonists simultaneously. Furthermore, the game is surprising in how often it let's you set up double battles, which is neat. And of course, I really enjoyed the Battle Frontier even if some of the facilities felt rigged.

I like it...and wish the Gen 6 remakes of the Hoenn games (ORAS) included a lot of the changes it made.

But den i replayed emerald and its now in my top 5 pokemon games tbh

yeah, it's tied w/ Crystal for my fav pokemon game.

Havent played.

It's not my favorite Pokmon game or anything, but it's a good game.

This might be a hot take, but if I feel like playing Hoenn, I'd rather play OR/AS than Emerald. OR/AS adds more than enough other content to make up for the lack of the Battle Frontier IMO. Don't get me wrong though, Emerald is still a great and high tier Pokemon game.

Yes, by virtue of it being the game I've replayed the most.

Although, I almost always quit near the end when it gets to the long slog that is the ocean area.

I also kinda like Ruby/Sapphire a bit more, since in Emerald you can trivialize the endgame by capturing Rayquaza before the E4.

Nah, it's pretty mild. The newer remakes, san D/P's, are generally viewed as the superior versions of the games even when things are dropped due to just how big of a leap everything else is. This is especially true for the post-Gen IV remakes as that was probably the biggest leap in quality for the series since it began.

Hoenn is the absolute peak of the series for me! I have the strongest feeling of Pokenostalgia for R/S, and OR/AS were *fantastic* updates during the gen where I felt the core gameplay of the series peaked. To be clear, my nostalgia is specifically for R/S, but since Emerald is just R/S but better, of course I love it~

yea i still have my copy of it. the only gb/gba pokemon game i still have. the remakes are better though so no real reason to go back and play it. although i have been wanting to play emerald legacy but haven't gotten around to it yet. i still think the remakes would be the better way to play the games though but crystal legacy was good if you still want that old school feel

I played it once years ago and got stuck on the dual gym boss. Stopped playing after that and never went back.

I really wish the remake had fixed the horrible level curve in Gen 2 and made Houndour/Murkrow available before Kanto. Still an amazing duo of games, but it could have been better.

You should check out Crystal Legacy, which someone mentioned earlier in this topic, It's a ROM hack of the original Crystal, but it totally re-balances the game and fixes basically every issue the original G/S/C had (level curve, bad movepools, bad Pokemon availability, gym teams not having enough Johto Pokemon, etc.) while still keeping the game feeling like Crystal. Johto feels like a much more linear progression, and Kanto feels like a proper challenge and not just a walk in the park until you face Blue and Red. IMO, it's the best and most definitive way to play through Johto, even better than HG/SS.

Tried going through it a few months ago and got bored when it got to the first (?) island or something. Not much of a fan this gen, I guess.

Emerald is probably my favorite out of them all.
