as in before you get your ocarina back the very first cycle

was talking about the game with friends and this came up and curious what happens

pretty sure the same thing as usual. You get the bad ending cutscene and get sent back to day 1 by the game. Though not sure if your progress gets saved whenever you run out of time now that I think of it

i think you might get sent back to midnight. i feel like this is something i tried just to see what the game did and i think it just warps you back right before the end of the 1st cycle. not sure if it was the 64 or the 3ds version i tried it in. i also could just be remembering wrong.

The same thing probably happens. This can be tested in like 20 minutes in the game itself by using the scarecrow.

If you have a Switch with the NSO Expansion Pack, you can go into the game and test it yourself.

i'm still thinking i'm right but i tried to youtube it and can't find anyone doing it. just the moon crash after the first cycle. i'm not buying NSO and don't feel like hooking up my 64. i might try it out soon if nobody beats me to it.

It's not a "sent back in time" in a gameplay sense, it's in a gameover and restart from previous save sense

Same thing as normal, the moon crashes and you respawn inside the Clock Tower at 6 AM on Day 1, talking to the Happy Mask Salesman with everything you did during the cycle wiped out.

Now did any of you folks know you can mail Anju's letter to Kefei on Day 2 and the mailman will go through the same procedure to deliver it on Day 3? Kefei just won't answer the bell, even if you stopped Sakon on Day 1. Anju actually has a unique line if you botched delivering the letter on Day 1 or if you didn't meet with Kefei in time on Day 2.

There are youtube videos of it.

Yeah, same as normal. You don't "get to go back more" just because you have the instrument and the song.

If the moon falls, no matter what it is game over. You are canonically dead. And need to reload from your save. Doesn't matter if you have the instrument or not.

you lose everything

a lot of people in this topic have never let the moon fall, it seems? it's basically a reset to your last hard save

So does the game basically hard save when you get to Clock Town for the first time? Since you aren't sent back to the very beginning (i.e. the Lost Woods)

Has anyone tried doing a "do as much good as possible" cycle? Where you try to do as many positive interactions as possible across the game world?

I did, just about the only thing I couldn't do was gather all the stray fairies since I'd basically have to complete all 4 dungeons in one cycle.

I did this last time I played. It took me several attempts to do it. I saved the dungeons for last, and my game froze during the Twinmold fight, so I had to do it all over again.

There was someone on the MM board way back in the day who tried to do that in the very first cycle after deku link. I'm pretty sure he got like 99% of the game done, just missed like 1 thing + some mutually exclusive stuff

not sure if people managed to get 100% but you can definitely beat the game in 1 cycle. i think people might have 100% it but had to use glitches

IIRC 3D making time go by a bit quicker made it so you can't beat the game in 1 (post-deku) cycle anymore. Another on the list of 3D's unnecessary changes that make things ever so slightly worse

I've tried it. I couldn't do the stray fairies or the frogs, but I did everything else.

Cuz it's a 25 year old game that most people with any interest have already played and a topic that essentially asks for that pic. It's like how people casually mention that Sephiroth kills Dumbledore's sled.

you cant 100% it do to exulsive outcomes of a few events

but you can ALMOST 100% it in a single cycle
