Coffee Meets Bagel used to have commenting, but they removed it in their commitment to destroying their platform.

Commenting is interesting, because you end up seeing profiles that you might mindlessly swipe right on on another platform, but there is nothing to comment on. Like, 4 generic selfies and "sarcasm is my love language". What the hell am I supposed to do with that?

Damn, sucks to hear that coffee meets bagel is removing features. They used to be one of the top recommended dating apps.

And when they give you nothing to work with, best you can do is to open with something more generic like "What do you like to do for fun?" I've definitely had to open with that a few times lol

5 matches seems fine for Hinge

I have been married 25 years, and that is very fortunate for me. In all the obvious ways of course, but also: modern dating would eat me alive. I would have no idea how to navigate any of it.

Maybe read the person's profile and ask a question about something they are into, while maybe mentioning your own interest in it?

This is why people stay single.

I do best with some of the more spicy places like fetlife and other apps. More straight to the point lol

I have a random Hinge question and I'm not sure if it's Hinge-wide, location specific or just me but doesn't anyone get matched with a lot of teachers?

Not that there is anything wrong with teaching at all, but it feels like 80% of my matches are teachers. And it makes me wonder if I'm just attractive to teachers or if there are just a lot of teachers on Hinge.

With my now girlfriend, my opening message was pointing out that we both had taken a picture at the same place (an aviary). So that got us talking about when we went there, what we enjoyed while we were there etc.

With other women, I tried to find something on their profile to ask them about. One woman's profile said that she liked traveling. So my opening message to her was "Hi Tracey, my name is 'Nox.' I saw that you love traveling. What's been your favorite destination so far? I recently came back from Texas and it was a lot of fun."

How dominant are bots on that app? My therapist recommended Hinge and Bumble to me back in December and I haven't done anything with them yet.

Much tougher for bots on Hinge, as the profile requires multiple specific sections.

Bumble is much easier for bots, but I did have a bunch of success when I used it (2017/18)

Why haven't you tried yet? Might as well.

So, anecdotally, when I first started using dating apps, my first 3 matches all worked at schools. The first woman was a teacher, the second woman was a school librarian and the third woman was a school counselor.

I remember that specifically because I was like wtf why are they all school employees. The other 5 that I went on dates with weren't in school related fields though, so they ended up being the minority.

I didn't notice any bots when I was on Hinge. I say give it a try. It can be nerve-wracking at first, but it's good to put yourself out there

When I was dating I found hinge to be the best app.

100% agree. Ive had 5
-10 matches on there, and around 5 that turned into actual conversations.

Most of them eventually stopped responding, but a couple didnt and I still talk to them.

I just met a woman yesterday whos an hour from me and likes metal music like I do. We shared music much of yesterday and are still talking.

I also hate how Bumble is time based. All the other apps, you get new likes every day sometime in the early morning, as I just have them when I wake up, regardless of when I ran out of likes.

With bumble, you get your likes 24-25 hours after the last time you ran out of likes.

The only two knocks Ill give Hinge are:

1. I cant get that video selfie verification to work at all, Ive tried 10 different times.
2. I feel like the final match before you run out of likes doesnt count, because I keep seeing those people again. I feel like it should tell you that you ran out before you read their profile and message them, rather than after and then not sending the message.

I haven't tried yet because something in my brain hates making accounts for sites, because there are very very few websites I actually go to and I end up just forgetting about anything else I sign up for.

I'm also nervous about meeting with a potential new partner because the only person in my life who tried to understand me and I was able to really connect with was my SO, who passed away over 3 years ago.

I didn't like Hinge because I never really got the commenting thing... Also having your bio put into sections made me look worse than I already am because I'm already too fucking boring to barely scrap together a normal bio...

Needless to say I never got matches on Hinge... But the bar was already so low because I never got matches on any app...

Imo 'hey' is kinda meh but not really a dealbreaker, I've had good convos and dates with people who started with hey. But if all the follow-up messages are low effort or one word responses, then I'm out

I dont know, my last date was around 2007. Granted, I havent been using dating apps that whole interim. Its more like I tried the free ones like Plenty of Fish, OK Cupid, etc., tried Match Premium for a year, got nothing from any of them, then gave up until the last year or so.
