I know the birth rate in Europe isn't really much higher but some countries, like France, do have a higher birth rate and I'm sure their 16 week paid leave that's mandated by law has something to do with it.

Decree 770 was a decree of the communist government of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauescu, signed in 1967. It restricted abortion and contraception, and was intended to create a new and large Romanian population.

In the 1970s, birth rates declined again. Economic pressure on families remained, and people began to seek ways to circumvent the decree. Wealthier women were able to obtain contraceptives illegally or to bribe doctors to give diagnoses which made abortion possible.

Especially among the less educated and poorer women there were many unwanted pregnancies. These women could only use primitive methods of abortion, which led to infection, sterility or even their own death.

Many children born in this period became malnourished, were severely physically disabled, or ended up in care under grievous conditions, which led to a rise in child mortality.

A consequence of Ceauescu's natalist policy was that large numbers of children ended up living in orphanages, because their parents could not cope with looking after them. The vast majority of children who lived in the state-run orphanages were not actually orphans, like the name implies, but simply children whose parents could not afford or did not want to look after them.

Having had kids fairly recently, this doesnt cover the expense to deliver the baby and maternal check ups from where I live.

Living wages wouldn't be enough. Most families now are dual income earners which mean children will need to sent to daycare which is expensive. And the Healthcare you need to give birth and the 9 months leading up to it are not cheap either.

If you want people to give birth to more children you need to not only heavily subsidize families for 18 years but also provide means for parents to have time to raise children as well.

I'm never having kids, not even for a billion dollars. Also, there are already too many damn people in the world.

lol, buddy, even with insurance most people pay more out of pocket for labor & delivery. Many gynecologists want half up front too.

Japan has been trying to get their population to have more kids and nothing has really been effective. There is no reasonable government program that is going to make people want to have more kids.

The problem these rich guys have is they want women to have more babies but they also don't want to have to pay their employees more or have their taxes go up. Trying to have it both ways isn't going to work.
