A doctor born in the United States says she received an email from federal immigration authorities demanding that she leave the country immediately.
Lisa Anderson, a physician from Cromwell, Connecticut, told NBC Connecticut on Wednesday that she recently received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security telling her, It is time for you to leave the United States."
Immigration authorities have been pushing noncitizens to leave of their own volition, or self-deport, as the number of deportations remains at similar levels to last year.
But Anderson, 58, was born in Pennsylvania and is a U.S. citizen.
"The language seemed pretty threatening to whomever it might actually apply to," she said.
A senior DHS official told NBC News that the department has been issuing the notices to individuals who do not have lawful status to remain in the country.
"If a non-personal email such as an American citizen contact was provided by the alien, notices may have been sent to unintended recipients," the officials said. "CBP is monitoring communications and will address any issues on a case-by-case basis."
"To be clear: If you are an alien, being in the United States is a privilege not a right," the officials added. "We are acting in the best interest of the country and enforcing the law accordingly."
The email to Anderson comes days after a Boston immigration attorney who is also a U.S. citizen received the same email from DHS, telling her to leave the country within seven days. The attorney, Nicole Micheroni, told MSNBC that as of Tuesday, federal officials had not followed up.
Pointing to the Boston email, Anderson said that she does not "have anything to do with immigration."
Anderson has been carrying her U.S. passport on her at all times since receiving the email and is seeking an immigration attorney.
It does make me concerned therere a lot more people out there like me who probably also thought this was spam, who probably didnt realize, I have a problem, she said.

This is likely a similar set of circumstances as that US immigration lawyer who received the same email. Somebody, who probably receives routine care from her, without an email put her email down as their email (point of contact).

All of this is still beyond fucked tho

This is Nazi-level disgusting and dystopian. History will remember 2025-2028 as a very shameful period of America's history, where hate, fear and ignorance won, and ultimately what led to its downfall.

This is literally how the holocaust began. Like, point for point checklist. Each encroaching step takes us closer towards gas chambers.

If any "good" Republicans are left, they need to understand that the 80 million or so population of Germany in 1939 didn't wake up one morning and decide to start gassing Jewish people. It was incremental steps to get there, each one justified as a matter of national security.

My first reaction is that they can't kick out US citizens just because their work email somehow appeared in Homeland Securitys database.
...but then I remember that this is Trumps America...

Trump is a second generation American, so they can't go that far back.
But if we look at Elon, we got a guy that was born in fucking Africa.
There will always be exceptions.

Well, the current going angle is those who are born to two people here (explicitly) illegally would/should not be granted citizenship. So the current angle is no 'anchor babies'. For the current moment, you can expect that to be the first step/new outer boundary.

Now, once they have burned through all the 'undesirables' that fit into that category, you can expect that they'll generate a new 'other/undesirable' group and gun for taking citizenship from those people.

Personally, I don't think they'll even do that. I think they'll just rely on their 'oopsies' like this doctor's situation to facilitate people they don't like out of the country 'accidentally'

The sad thing is that this is what we've been saying for at least ten years: Trump and his party are literally following the Hitler playbook step by step, in real time and visible to all, and have been doing so since before his first term. We've been talking about this all along, and the whole world is just...kinda sitting back and watching it happen.

It was ridiculous to think that access to abortion would be revoked, or that a mob of Republicans would storm the capitol because their guy lost.

Trump has already floated the idea of letting foreigners stay if they pay $5 million. Thats just the cost of 5 Wisconsin voted to Elon.

If you'd been paying attention, the first wasn't that ridiculous. Now if you had said the latter, in a vacuum, then it wouldn't be that ridiculous either. The ridiculousness comes from the absolute kid gloves that Garland treated the rioters with.

Neither of them were ridiculous in the context of a country that elected Trump through a bullshit system. This isn't a new danger, this was the end result of what the GOP and their donors had been working towards for the last half century.
