It's region locked because otherwise it would be cheaper to import it directly from Japan than buy it locally for most of the world.

This cheap JP version of the Switch 2 doesn't have different hardware. Nintendo clearly could have made it that price everywhere.

Probably gonna get a new TV for Switch 2 but IDK what size to get. My chair is about 93 inches away from my current 40" TV so I was thinking of getting a 43". But I've read that from that distance I could get a 55" so I'm not sure.

not only vat but other logistics cost as well since they are shipping the console from another country plus it's not cheaper in japan with their high inflation and weaker yen it only seems cheaper to you cuz you are looking at it from the usd to yen conversion

And Japans high inflation? Their inflation was barely 1% more than in the EU. Youre clearly just making stuff up.

Dude, you're really not better than Trump in understanding international economics.

To use simple numbers, imagine that Nintendo is selling the Switch for 1 and Microsoft is selling the XBox for 1$, and we'll also ignore shipping costs.

If 1 = 1$, then it would cost a Japanese person 1 to buy an XBox, and a person form the US 1$ to buy a Switch.

If the yen is weaker, say 1 = 0.5$, then it would cost a Japanese person 2 to buy an XBox, and it would cost a person from the US 0.5$ to buy a Switch.

A weaker currency makes it more expensive to import things, and cheaper for others from other countries to buy your product. So, once again, a cheaper yen would make the Switch 2 cheaper to buy in other countries, not more expensive!

Not to mention that the region-locked version is just done via software, ie: programming. There's no physical difference in the actual circuitry involved.
