You're both missing the point. The point is that the responsibility is not severable i.e. you are both jointly responsible for the whole and separate apportionments can never be determined.

Everything you do feeds into the ecosystem of the relationship so the key to the philosophy is:
1) taking responsibility for what you, personally, feed in.
2) taking responsibility for how you respond to what is presented back to you.
