To me this has most of the markings of the 3DS launch. Highly controversial price point(s) with gimmicks that are of questionable value to the average consumer. The whole GameChat is about 10 years late to the party and there are numerous other services that provide, in essence, the same product for free.

I will give the Switch 2 credit, though, the launch lineup is infinitely more solid than the DS' or 3DS'

I know the discourse online is that it's going to fail, but honestly I don't see how it doesn't sell like crazy and continue the success from the Switch. Once they get the next Pokemon on there in a year, there's no way they fail.

You mean, assuming Trump's tariffs (which, remember, don't have an exemption for video game consoles) don't completely fuck it over?

It's going to sell like crazy. Just wish we had a new Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing on the horizon.

Sure, but then everything is ruined at that rate.

While I don't think it will match Switch 1 sales I think it will still sell like hotcakes and be an incredible success despite some vocal complaints online.

Most people who enjoy the Switch just wanted a literal more powerful switch and that is what they are getting. No crazy redesign and most of their libraries still work with Switch 2.

I just wish my Switch joy cons would work with the Switch 2. I love my neon green/pink joy cons.

I can understand people wanting that. I never used the joycons but I play in docked mode 100% of the time and used a pro controller. I didn't care about the joycons. With that being said I still swapped out that annoying blue/red neon color for those gray ones.

I see it being a relative flop to start with because no one will be able to afford the thing and the games are too expensive.

Give it a few years and it might gain traction.

This is hard to predict with the Tarrifs.

I think it will do better than 3DS in its first year based off of preorders and confirmed 1st and 3rd sorry support alone.

It'll be very successful, but at the price point and with the reality of the global economy I'd be very surprised if it got anywhere near the Switch sales totals (150+ million units sold).

My out of my ass guess is between 80 and 100 million units sold over the course of its generation, assuming they have similar quality first party titles and solid third party support like the current generation.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

I think you are overestimating the impact of the console price. It will sell well. Plenty of people can afford the console.

Game adoption might be slower though, as people tend balk at game prices more since it is a purchase that happens more frequently.

This pretty much. Not as many people can afford to just jump right in with today's economy. Especially since quite a sizeable chunk of Switch players were minors that were given one as a gift. So it won't flop like the Wii U did, but it's not gonna come close to the Switch's numbers either.

3DS

people will still buy it and not sure if we'll get a price cut or not but i definitely think sales will be slow the first year or 2. there's really not much out there game wise. mario kart and the new DK game is pretty much it. then there's the duskbloods next year but think that being on a nintendo system will probably give it worse sales than any of their recent games. then most of what else they're doing is ports of switch games and even MP4 is coming out on switch 1 so that's not a reason to buy a switch 2 and pay extra for that.

so like 2 big exclusives the first year? and a 3rd next year. professor layton will be on switch 1. so from the other exclusives i see

survival kids - does anyone care about this?

kirby air riders - gonna be overshadowed big time by mario kart world. i barely played the first so don't care about it although i do love a lot of the kirby games but not spending $80 for this.

hyrule warriors - never played the series but been meaning to check out the first one

drag x drive - at first thought it looked cool in the direct but watching it on treehouse it looks like it's gonna be pretty bad. thought it would be similar to rocket league but seems like it's more of a tech demo than a real game.

welcome tour - speaking of tech demos....heard it's supposed to be $10 when it 100% sure be free and packaged in the system. really can't see much of anyone buying this. i'd be surprised if it hits over 1 million sales.

First one is pretty great. Second one I didn't care much for how the game controlled like an odd hybrid of Hyrule Warriors+Breath of the Wild, nor did I care for how upgrading weapons went the gacha route of sacrificing weapons to other weapons. I guess it sort of gives you a little more control over having to hope a better weapon drops like the first one, but it felt worse to me. The story was interesting at least.
