Kind of my random rant of the day (and I know this sound cliche), but how the heck do people watch over an hour of that stuff?? My attention spand is kinda short so unless something really grabbed me, I tend to lose interest after a while. And, I get a bad impression of them because all of the streamers I seen have this VERY obnoxious/douchey/dudebros persona to them tbat grate me. Maybe I haven't found one that aren't like that yet, and I'm being judgemental, but damn too many I seen are just so unbearable lol.

I know this is more of a boomer take, because they're pretty popular and a lot of younger generations love them, and sometimes I like to keep up with trends to keep up with young folks (my niece and nephews like streamers and they talk about it to me a lot lol).

I can't really do streams but I like long, edited YouTube videos... Always have something playing while I play games or doing something else...

I think a lot of Vtubers are funny but only from snippets... I can't do the streams...

Parasocial relationships are a very real thing. That's part of what got me through COVID. I gravitated towards smaller streamers though so it was easier to actually feel like part of the community and if I put effort into it, I probably could've made some legit friendships.

Outside that, I like a couple of streamers that tend to play the same kind of games I'm into but they're usually background noise while I do other things. It's nice to learn about new games, see how others play the games you love, that kind of thing. I don't under IRL streams though. Hot tub streams should be obvious why they're popular.

It sounds like you hang out in the Just Chatting category of Twitch. Think of a game you like to watch, watch a streamer whose content is mainly that game. Like if you're into Mario Maker, watch Ryukahr or Carl Sagan or something. Or if you're into speedruns, watch a speedrun of a game. Like Smallant or Suigi. Not every streamer has to be Hasan or Poki or Faze.

I dont like them either, so I dont watch them.

Its a really effective system.

I didn't understand it until I started watching some smaller streamers, especially around my age.

It is parasocial, but I get the appeal of watching someone play something you're into, and talking to them about similar interests.

Not all of them have an over-the-top ot grating personality.

Sometimes streamers are just charismatic enough to carry for that long.

Sometimes people use the game they're playing as a way to experience it again via another person's fresh perspective.

Some people tell me they just put me on in the background while they do other stuff and I'm like that's cool. :)

The only streamers/youtubers I've ever been able to tolerate are the relatively calm Pokmon VGC ones like Aaron Zheng.

But saying that, I haven't watched them for more than a year now.

Some streamers can be pretty entertaining playing video games. Sometimes it's interesting to see how people react to a scene or a game that you love and seeing it from their perspective. It's like seeing a friend or a family member go through a game and cheering them on. It can be fun.

I'm not much for watching streams either, but I do actually have a group of channels I like to follow for their uploaded videos. The crime youtuber scene is on point.

The only streamer I've ever been able to sit with is brutalmoose.

i'll occasionally watch clips of random streamers but i cant sit through a live stream even if i put it on my phone or tablet as background video while im gaming or using my PC...

At least in the vtuber space I find most are pleasant to listen to, some are funny, and a lot of the anecdotes are relatable

I cannot comprehend being into the types of streams the top IRL streamers do (slackjawed react nonsense, monotone talk about stupid drama, or softcore)

Holy shit yes. Ive heard kids say chat as if a group of people are actually watching them. I heard a kid say I might for it, chat to himself not too long ago and I was confused.

This is why I just stick with Etho, Mumbo Jumbo, GenerikB, and other Hermit Craft streamers. No chud nonsense, just Redstone contraptions and visual building mechanics.

I used to feel the same way, but this parasocial type content got me through some rough, lonely times. I feel like it can be difficult to understand the appeal unless you've been in that place.

People are more watching for the streamer, not the game. Some streamers have fans who will watch them play anything. They just like listening to the streamer. Some of it also is people who have already played a game and like seeing the streamers reaction to various moments in the game. Same reason there are many people on YouTube now who make videos reacting to movies and TV shows and they all have fans too. Sometimes people like to re-experience the first time seeing a movie, by watching someone else watch it for the first timd

I just don't like media that I can't go at my own pace, except for I guess music.

I like games and reading because I control the speed, while TV/movies are at the pace of the piece.

This is made worse when it's media covering media that I could be doing at my own pace if I skipped the middle step and just did it myself.

I don't just dislike the concept and time wastage of streaming, but generally I don't find most streamers someone Id want to listen to even in their best clips.

That doesn't mean there aren't clip exceptions. But a lot of them are just not for me.

I'm not big into streamers either. There's one that I religiously give my prime sub to and will occasionally tune in and donate some money, but that's only because I met the dude through a friend before I even knew he was a streamer. But it's small time and he has a niche he does (PSN trophy hunting) that can be interesting.

Like others have said I am fine with long form edited content like This Is How You Don't Play, etc.

One thing I really dislike though is the parasocial relationships people get with streamers. It turns me off of watching streaming. Also I've seen a HUGE increase in people starting message boards threads with "Chat, am I...." and I fucking hate it so much.
