I'm tempted to get this game, despite never playing an Assassin's Creed game before.

Partially to support a game with a Black protagonist, and also to stick it to the "historically-accurate" chuds.

An assassin named Ezio did not fight the Pope who had magic powers.

And FDR did not secretly collaborate with fucking Hitler, that seems a little more egregious than historical fiction of a guy who did, factully exist.

Like....the requirements to be samurai weren't that extensive. Yasuke had a sword, a stipend, household, and duties. He wasn't important or prominent, but he was there and he was a Black samurai.

Well to be fair, if it did happen, we still wouldn't know about it. The pope wouldn't talk about it, especially if he lost. And the other fighter was a member of a shadowy group which the world isn't supposed to know exists

Oh and the pope wasn't using magic. It was advanced technology from an extinct more advanced species that used to rule Earth. They were not aliens. People often get that wrong. Just a different species that predated humans on this planet

Yea I'm not a huge fan of the rpg system either. Combat ends up feeling really spongy. At the very least since Valhalla they've added an option for assassinations to work consistently.

The best part of the game was the assassinations. Plotting a course, eliminating obstacles, blending in....even feeling like a badass when you could chain together kills if it came to a fight.

This is how I feel. I really loved the series for a while. I stopped playing after Black Flag since that game was shit but I wanted to get Valhalla since it seems like a cool setting. But after looking into it more a learning about how they changed the system so much I pretty much lost all interest.

the only AC RPG title that I played was Origins, and yea, I wasn't a fan of the whole health bar thing, or enemies having levels.

I didn't get too far into it, so I can't remember if they removed the social stealth elements or not.

as far as Shadows goes, I heard you can have the option to have enemies die from one stealth attack though, so at least there's that.

I forget what it's called but I really liked the system in Odyssey where you collected clues on targets and you could go out and kill them without a main story pointing you directly to them.

Baron_Ox posted...

Social stealth is pretty much gone IIRC. They sorta brought back blending in Valhalla but I don't think I ever used it since the level design made it so you could just go around obstacles.

They will throw a fit over most everything I don't give them any form of time of day.

Also I think people would like Mirage tbqh. It definitely goes back to the classic AC style and is a much smaller scope of a game. It also has investigations that open up new missions and often open ended missions to handle how you want them to.

AssCreed is a very different game before Origins. None of that bloated and superfluous RPG bullshit; enemies die when you stab them in the throat.

In the late 00's, I think you might have had a Ninja Gaiden or two? But in recent years, the setting has really made a comeback. I could see some players having this outlook.

Doesn't make any difference to me, though. I've always thought it was cool and never cared how many there were at one time. I always thought this was a perfect setting for the series, but like I said I gave up on the series itself a long time ago lol.

The problem is that there's about a decade and a half between the people saying the top and this game coming out. And in between a bunch of really good ninja and Samurai games came out.

I don't think it can be emphasized enough that ghosts of tsushima absolutely ate their lunch when it came to this and left them with scraps.

Ubisoft gets a lot of hate, but they are great at putting out a "good" game - it has the big fun open world with just enough fun side stuff to keep you engaged, and enough stuff that you can put the game down for 6 months and enjoy it when you pick it back up. They have a great record of like, 7.5/10 games that are fun to play but not world-changing.

If you aren't a crazy-hardcore gamer or have other things going on so you can only game sometimes, AC games (or I guess other big open world Ubi games) are usually a pretty easy thing to put on and have fun for a while.
