As I got to the past for the first time I just had a whim to see how long I could last without updating anyone's equipment.

I'm in the future now and Cronk is still curbstomping everything with a wooden sword. (Dude stabbed through the steel plating of the Dragon Tank. That's gotta be some stiff wood)

And I know people have managed to win from the first access to the bucket and the "unwinnable" fight during the story...but I don't like grinding >_>

Almost got my shit kicked in at the Derelict Factory. I did Crono/Lucca and was able to take out each row of robots in two Fire Whirls. (Why doesn't Lucca's fire burn up a wooden sword?) Both of them had like 20 hp left at the end.

Wondering if I would've had an easier time just using Marle as a healbot and Crono using vanilla Cyclone. >_>

The game is finally getting tougher, but now that everyone has magic the equipment might be largely irrelevant anyway. <_<

It's really good. I do get pissed off that ppl call this a 15-20 hr game. Yeah myb there are speed tactics and didn't endings. I know training is annoying at times. But the fact that ppl can beat FFVI in probably less time. I just the point of these Earthbound games, I actually know aren't to be sped through. Just chill and learn the story too. I love Mato Anomalies, if I really wanted to I could speed the fuck through everything again for a trophy. I could.

Because it is. You don't HAVE to speed through to get that. I took my sweet ass time in my first playthrough and scored 17.5 hours.

Saying it's short isn't an insult, it's a compliment. It's nice to have a really good JRPG that's also concise. It tells the story it needs to tell, and shuts up. It doesn't feel the need to ramble at you for a week and a half like other jrpgs

I'm not saying those are bad games. Both Chrono Trigger and Persona 5 are in my top 5. But I would replay Chrono Trigger over P5 any day of the week, because I can finish a playthrough in a couple days, rather than dedicating a month and a half of my life to a 120 hour saga.

Seriously, there's no reason to get angry at people calling a relatively short game short. It's not a bad thing. Chrono Trigger SHOULD be short; it lends itself well to getting all the endings.

Some apologies. I saw talk about the new Chrono announcements. I stand by what I stated. I guess a old game gets the old shorty short. Whatcha want. Another Bronx Tale.

I've beaten this game so many times and usually I always bling everyone out with the best gear.

The game is generally super easy though so I decided to see how long my patience would hold out using only the starting gear lol. So far everyone is still doing just fine. >_>

Don't sword shame. What's important is how he uses it.

I play jrpg at low level to make sure to keep the challenge all the way through. Only leveling if stuck or I can't win by the margin

Finished Heckran's Cave.

Magic melted all the enemies, but the boss did more damage than Marle could heal, so winning came down to the fact that he's slow af and not too aggressive.

I think Magus is definitely going to be the litmus test on whether I'll have the patience to see this silly little challenge run through to the end, or just properly equip everyone and play normally.

I was hoping that my characters being so squishy would incentivise exploiting enemy formations and aoe, but it's really not changed much in practice lol

I've been getting worried about the enemy power creep, so I took a detour to 65mil to grind the hunting ground until Lucca and Marle got Protect and Haste.

Masamune was actually a pretty fun fight. I'll never get tired of the jingle for Haste. It just *sounds* powerful and dramatic in such a fitting way for its effect.

...now I'm back in 65 mil to track down some dreamstone.

Lucca having some sort of lesbian crisis after Ayla says gender doesn't matter gets me every single time. >_>

My goal back in the day after seeing one character get ** stars was to get as many people with ** stats as possible. I had one save that I would rip through the game over and over again to just see how wild I could get the stats. Good times.

I borrowed a friend's cart in high school (1999) and he had 99x of every item, all max stats on one file. I was like, goddamn.
