We all have those little things that annoy us for no good reason. Maybe it's a random word, a specific food texture, or the way someone pronounces "GIF." For me, it's when people leave the microwave with time still on the clock instead of clearing it. I dont know why, but seeing 0:04 just sitting there drives me up the wall.

So what's something you irrationally dislike, even though you know it shouldnt bother you as much as it does?

Nothing. All of my hatreds are completely rational and justified.

There's a specific version of the Amen Break that has a sped-up vocal which sounds like a creaking rocking chair. It irks me greatly:

Thats a weird one to get hung up about.

In my previous relationship I referred to her as my partner because wed lived together for over a decade, bought a house together, got pets together, etc. Girlfriend sounded far too casual to indicate the reality of the relationship.

Anything being called a podcast, fuck that name.
Toilet paper hanging the wrong way.
Emoticons being called emoji.
The leaving the microwave time thing.
Every movie pretending Canada doesn't exist despite being filmed in Canada.
Camera shaky movies.

You see, I feel justified in my hatred of those terms because it feels so impersonal and not at all representative of what two people who are in a committed relationship should feel for each other. "Partner" has such a platonic feel to it, and "Significant Other" just sound like a twee-ass made up term from someone who doesn't want to commit. As much as I also cringe over the term, I'd much rather accept "Love/Lover" than any of the above.

I also get that Girlfriend/Boyfriend doesn't have the same significance to it either, but you know, there's something that could solve that issue...

Okay, maybe that does bring up something bordering on irrational for me. I absolutely despise Youtubers who do their entire presentation standing in front of the camera holding a shitty-ass microphone in front of their face. The shittier the mic, the deeper my hatred (fuck Airpod microphones). Bonus Hate-Points when they put their dumb face on the thumbnail like this

Also, yeah, I agree with Violet. One of my favorite Youtubers and someone I've been watching since the beginning does this now and it just makes me feel so disappointed. It's not enough to make me stop liking him as a person, but it just makes me so sad to see him sell out like that.

Oh, my musical peeve is that trope, usually in EDM where the claps will go from quarter to eighth to sixteenth notes right before the beat drop. Maybe I'm not explaining it well, I can't think of a specific example right now.

People using disk and disc interchangably

Idk if it's irrational but I automatically despise anyone in a BMW or a tesla on the road... but 95% of the time they do something to reinforce my opinion

Theres also a sandwich shop next to one of the bars I frequent that has their open sign on after close like.. 30% of the time

I think the reason I hate it is because its like I know its such a simple thing. Turn off the fuckin open sign. Its part of closing. And for whatever employee is closing that day, theyre just too lazy or too incompetent to turn off the open sign.

its not the fact that the sign is on, its the fact that somebody didnt care enough to turn it off

I hate Shrek. Shrek has always been a soulless amalgamation of slightly dated pop culture references.

This isn't that irrational but I also don't like bold asymmetry like alternating nail colors, mismatched socks, and those hairstyles where one side is long and the other shaved.

Little people "comedians". I actually hate that every word that comes out of their mouth is related to them being short. They're little hams who think they're so funny but I've never heard one make a real joke.

If you stopped talking about it for three seconds, everyone would forget that you're short. No one cares. Get a real personality.

Yeah I really want to hear the joke about you getting kicked like a football again. This is so great.

I don't think I've ever seen that. Sometimes my keyboard will double press apostrophes, but I always go back and fix them.

I irrationally hate the phrase "It is what it is", it's such a stupid and meaningless phrase that does and says NOTHING to the person it's being said to.

The reason this is an irrational dislike is because I feel the "such is life" phrase is the same but I'm completely unbothered by it.

Ive seen unhinged used from time to time, but normally when its appropriate (like batshit crazy meth heads or something).

I think it's just starting to pick up. I only started seeing and hearing people use it within maybe the past couple weeks. But I typically feel like I'm behind the curve anyways.

You see, I'm the opposite. I say "It is what it is" all the time as a way of accepting that a situation can't and shouldn't be approached from a perspective of correcting it and to just deal with it. "Such is life" and "C'est La Vie" not only sounds pretentious to me, but feels more defeatist, at least from the people I tend to hear it from.

i kind of get it? neither really bother me but "it is what it is" really does somehow sound more apathetic. maybe it's because i used to work with someone that said it a lot.

Old people in public who think that they don't have to hold their tongue at all, because "that's just how you get when you're old."

If you're one of those, no one wants or likes being around you. You think you're mature, but you act like a spoiled child. Only teenagers and young people show any real respect to others in public. One dropped needle could set you off like a grenade because you act like a psycho.

Also people who go in public high. Everyone does it, haha. Yeah, and everyone who does it sticks out like a sore thumb, and god help whoever has to interact with your dumb ass.

I think most people have a phrase they use in a similar way. I tend to gravitate towards What can you do? as a rhetorical question when its clear that you can do fuck all about something so its best to accept it and move on.

Yeah, "it is what it is" has its place. When people are bitching about something that is completely out of their control, it's kinda like "alright shut the fuck up and move on"
