VA jokes aside, pretty good episode, Monster Girl finally has a solution to her curse, and a real cliffhanger there with Angstrom now ready to launch his counterattack with many unlikely partnerships. Probably offered them all similar deals that he offered The Maulers before the original experiment fucked up his mindset.

FINALLY we're getting to the good stuff.

Really? I quite liked him. Also fun to see that even Invincible ends up making his own nemesis. As the Queen of Fables could have told Mark, you gotta make sure to kill the entire bloodline or this ends up happening.

It was also kind of unfortunate timing on my part, but just as I was thinking the dude's wife was ride-or-die it turned out she was uh...ride-and-die.

The only annoying thing I found about Powerplex was his voice. He constantly sounded like he was drunk. Drawn out and slurred speech. He was a disturbed man though and needs help. He can't even recognize the consequences of his own actions.

Good episode. I'm glad Mark handled the situation the way he did. I'm glad he didn't resort to snapping the guy's arms when he had him in the hold or ripping him in half before then. For once, him being a punching bag wasn't cringe. Still a tough break for Mark though. He acts, people die. He doesn't act, people still die. It's a really hard place to be put in.

Now I gotta wait another week for the next episode.

Whats going on with anstrom at the end? 1st of all I thought anstrom was dead? 2nd of all why does he have all the marks there? Why does he care about this mark so much ? Also maybe he's a good guy and he wants to recruit Mark to a team?

and power plex is not marks fault at all

and powerplex himself killed his wife and child

i get that grief makes us irrational

just feels very poorly done

I must say, I do enjoy some of the OC coming from reddit. They work quick, or just had this in waiting for the episode to air.

An episode on perspectives. Obviously the Powerplex one with the Chicago incident is the most prominent (though also bringing up stuff like how Mark broke into the Pentagon and fucking nothing of consequence happened when literally everyone else would be locked away), but you also got Powerplex's wife knowing most of everything about Invincible from the least reliable narrator possible, Oliver being unable to grasp how the father he knew his entire life could possibly be responsible for a massive tragedy and attempted global takeover killing thousands and inevitably millions if he went through with it further, the perspectives on heroism between Rae and Rex and why Rex feels as if he always has to be in the game while Rae is resigned to throw in the towel, and let's not even get into Angstrom's absolutely distorted perspective on everything regarding Mark due to his jumbled up memories from every timeline.

Light comic spoilers nothing specific. The invincible war was brutal and when I started to wonder how any of humanity survives in the universe.

This episode was slow paced and dull for the most part, but DAMN that moment you realize what Powerplex did. I'm on the boat that he's an annoying character, but looks like things are heating up!

Well I do like him, I am just more so upset with him for the fact that him and his wife had the worst plan, and the plan backfires and he STILL blames Mark. I give Mark props for not resorting to violence, and damn...he even hugged him, too!

We saw Mark beat the crap out of him, we never saw him dead. The show has never been shy about showing dead peoples faces. Them not showing his face meant he probably wasn't dead. It was a pretty subtle clue.

I side with the other guardians a lot. But why would they just have took dude in the transport van with him.

I think this video will be very enlightening regarding Powerplex. A good video essay about him and his motivations and the themes of the episode. Also brings up something about Angstrom and the evil Invincibles he's recruiting that I've been thinking about.

Should Mark have stopped him before ? I normally don't think heroes should put the burden of saving the world on their shoulders all the time. Like how Spider-man does. But this guy was calling him out no on else .

i get what the episode was trying to do i just dont think it was done all that well

id have probably enjoyed it more if the shows general pacing was better but it has a rather slow pace in general so a episode about a random guy (who im sure will return later) just felt like padding

from what i under stand its going to take YEARS to reach the end of the comic at its current pace

I really like Aaron Paul. Jesse Pinkman and Todd Chavez are two of my favorite characters in all of media brought to life by his fine work. But Powerplexwas not his best work. I really feel that for this episode to work, for us to feel any connection to his perspective, the performance needed layers. This was pretty one note, to the detriment of the episode.

Boy the outcome of this was dark, even for Invincible.

I agree with Heineken from earlier in the thread-the title cards were a great joke.

I feel like the ingredients were here for a great episode, but it didnt really land. Again, mostly because of Paul-a very talented actor who was miscast here. YMMV, of course.

I thought the episode was fine but it also feels like we're getting a bunch of episodes in a row that are just character building (which is great) with no real progression of the overarching story, outside of a mid credits stinger. I think if they spaced these episodes out more episodes like this would be more well received.

pretty much what i just said season is almost over and we have not had much plot progression

Yeah I like him but I didn't really get the emotional impact from him. Like he seemed to use the same voice throughout the whole episode. His wife and kid just died and he's got the same level of sorrow and rage as when he is practicing his character with his wife.

You put it much better than I did-thank you. That was my problem too. Same voice, no matter the situation, for the entire episode.

This needed a really nuanced performance to work, and we didnt get it. We already know Invincible is not responsible for Chicago, so in order for another perspective motivated by grief to work, it has to draw us in and make us feel it. Powerplex just went around yelling the whole time.

Perfection

One thing that I noticed when deciding to compare this to the comic, the "hostage" situation was moved from a decomissioned Government building with metal floors to the place were his sister and niece lived. When I saw the episode, I thought that Powerplex breaking out of the van with the electricity flowing around the van was going to be foreshadowing to what would happen to his wife and son, where while grabbing Mark and putting his all into frying his head, the electrical current traveled across the floor, but they changed it to shit just getting out of control, which in either case is still on Powerplex's hands for not luring Mark elsewhere once he had him in his trap. Your call which is better or worse, or if they're equal, I'll just say that I'm also half tempted to post the panel where he realizes what he did since the art's really fucking good, but I'd probably be moderated for posting Kentucky Fried Wife.

Since it was an abandoned facility in the comic, luring Mark elsewhere would probably have been to Powerplex's detriment since others could potentially get involved when he leaves (he had the same initial problem where other heroes came to stop him as opposed to Mark), but in the show he probably could have come up with something if his head was in it. But it wasn't, dude was deranged with survivor's guilt at that point.

Makes more sense in the comic for this to happen. I thought the blast that fried them in the show was a bit too small to do all that. Especially compared to the blast he did after he found out they were fried.

I didn't recognize the voice, which is weird for me.
The girlfriend definitely sounded like Kristin Ritter, but AP voice actor bios weren't working when I watched the episode

It was Kate Mara.

But I definitely did think it resembled the Jane/Jesse relationship with her looking SO much like Ritter and him crashing out while she just made everything worse.
