pyresword 03/09/25 12:20:33 PM #117:	Finally finished the main story quest for 3.1. Honestly my thoughts are pretty similar to version 3.0--overall that was pretty solid. Not my favorite or my least-favorite story patch. First half didn't offer too much but most of the second half was good. More than anything though I'm excited for the next version. Some more specific thoughts. --Wasn't really a fan of how the Grove was handled. It's super lame to introduce it with the promise of this whole other civilized area with it's own life, characters, and culture, only to actually arrive there with a "Psyche! The black tide actually got them like 2 days ago lmao better luck next time." The story doesn't even really seem to be willing to go all-in on this promise of the Black Tide as this nameless faceless force of nature, since now they seem to be focusing in on the Flame Reaver as a specific character with specific goals. Of course there's every chance that this plot thread and its ties to Phainon will prove interesting in its own right, but I definitely think it had a negative impact on this portion of the story. --~~That said the fights with the Flame Reaver were great. Probably some of the best animated cutscenes we've gotten from the game so far. Mydei showing up was awesome~~ --I actually like Anaxa a lot. Might have to pull for him as well next patch. --~~The Tribios plotline was nice, even though I don't think I reacted to it as strongly as a lot of others did~~ --~~Really hoping that when the MC goes through Oronyx's trial they see (more detail of) their past with the Stellaron Hunters.~~ --Not a super big fan of the way they just randomly threw a teaser for version 3.2 at the end, but the direction it suggests they're taking the story next patch does seem cool. Once they actually start incorporating the elements of the story outside of Amphoreus is one thing. But for the moment they seem committed to hiding those details from the player and only focusing on the story internal to Amphoreus. I guess what I'm saying is I don't think it makes sense to shed any light on the forces behind the Black Tide until we have a better understanding of what it in the first place. Like the "sentient villain" angle we actually have nothing to dig into because the plot hasn't told us anything yet, and the "uncaring natural malevolence" angle loses potency when we know that there is an actual will commanding it. Obviously this state is going to change at some point but for the moment it hasn't. Generally I think these types of twist stories should work by focusing hard on the surface-level story and premise, and then pulling back the rug at the climactic moment to reveal the story-behind-the-story. The way this is operating feels more like they've pulled back the rug early and are then elbowing the player like "just wait until things get into focus". That was more than I actually wanted to say about this. Initially tried Break for the first half and probably got enough for 3 stars, but still reset with a new team comp anyways since the score was embarassing. Ended up going for the following which was good for 75k, probably could be pushed higher with better play with the team for the first half. Or just go sustainless even though I despise playing sustainless teams. Side 1: Fu Xuan/Remembrance MC/Big Herta/Small Herta Side 2: Jade/Serval/Tribbie/Aventurine That team for side 2 is actually rapidly becoming one of my favorite team comps, especially for fights with enemy mechanics that just care about the number of attacks you throw out. Funny enough it's my Herta team lagging behind here. Only got 35k when side 2 was a comfortable 40k, though I did make at least one obvious mistake where I put the mem buff onto small Herta on accident. --- I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways. <cite>pyresword posted [p:984386422] in Honkai Sta...
