Spent most of my life thinking that it was Napoleon ice cream, not Neapolitan ice cream.

For me it was language related stuff that I never really associated the origin of. Especially stuff that had a biblical origin story.

Like calling someone a Nimrod and wasn't until I was in my 20's and connected it to the bible. Same way with someone "babbling" is connected to the Tower of Babel being destroyed and the languages being separated.

Also a really big aha moment was that the term Mausoleum we use came from historical origins of one of the Seven wonders of the Ancient world where Mausolus built a tomb for his wife. I didn't learn of that until I was a teenager.

There are many examples like that. All language related usually.

For pronouncing meme as two syllables when it is only one for as long as I did. It was just something I only ever saw referred to online in text articles and I had zero idea how to pronounce the word, so just went with something I thought was correct which didn't turn out to be.

Thats fair. I guess the term bird is a regional thing. What about if I change it from bird to Yahoo? Would that be reasonable?

I was in my 30s when I learned what the term "no-no-cha-cha" meant.

It was today.

Literally standing in the shower realizing that RSVP means Respond Please. I had never heard anybody say the French nir looked it up myself. I was a bit embarrassed. Always thought it was more about saving a spot or saying yes to going to an event. Always made the inclusion seem like begging to me.

I went a good decade not realizing that the written chic and the spoken chic were the same word.

When I saw it spelled, I pronounced it "chick" in my head, and when I heard it pronounced I spelled it "sheek" in my head.

Actually read the text. It's about holding down Ctrl to stop the processes from moving around in task manager, not opening it.

In high school I learned to always favor using eventually instead of adventually and in college I learned adventually isnt a word.

That you need a credit card to start getting a credit rating.

I still think this is just more proof of how twisted the world is. Since, you know, the people who DON'T need to borrow are punished.

It's not entirely true. You can build credit with other types of loans. You might have a hard time getting some types though.

It is still fucked up that the financial world only trusts people who willingly go into some kind of debt, no matter how temporary.

Honestly, I did always think of pony as more of a smaller horse. But I'm not so around horses to be using the term.
