I feel like i haven't heard too much hype since the initial announcement, and it's looks so similar to the Switch 1 that it's probably going to be hard to convince parents/grandparents who don't know anything about video games why they should buy the Switch 2.

I'm getting a bad feeling about it, but maybe I'm being pessimistic. I'm personally waiting to see what Valve does for Steam Deck 2 and see what Nintendo releases in the first year before I pull the trigger on one.

It'll be fine. Switch 2 is a name that immediately indicates it's a successor unlike Wii U.

I hope so. Even the Playstations are visually very distinct from one another though, while the Switch really isn't. I'm just trying to look at it from a clueless parent/gaming outsider POV.

Are you sure this isn't just your personal opinion? Steam deck sales are like 1% of Nintendo's and apparently it dropped to record lows after Switch 2's announcement.

A clueless parent is still going to understand that the Switch 2 must be a successor to the Switch 1, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. I'd also bet that they will heavily market it as a successor as well.

Nintendo's marketing so far consists of one announcement video, correct?

There's no hype because no games have have been announced outside of the new mario kart during the teaser.

Once the April direct rolls around, hype will start building.

You haven't heard anything else because we haven't gotten any games announced.

There's only so much to talk about with somewhat better hardware and magnetic joycons.

There wasn't much hype after the initial reveal because the initial reveal didn't really show or explain THAT much.

I feel like there will be much more to excitement after the 4/2 presentation since that's going to be a substantially meatier showing of the Switch 2 hardware and software.

I just don't know why anyone would buy a first version Nintendo console at this point. It was different back during the GBC/GBA days(slightly, the GPA SP existed for a reason). Like, I have a switch, but I didn't buy one until the OLED version came out. I have a DS and 2DS lite because the lite was an obvious upgrade for a handheld I used a lot, but I didn't bother with a 3DS until the XL came out.

I wouldn't even think about buying the Switch 2 until they inevitably release the Switch 2.5

Switch 2 will be fine. Most people just wanted a more powerful Switch. Thats what we are getting.

I don't know what you're seeing to indicate there isn't hype behind it. It doesn't need to have a new or different gimmick behind it.

That and "clueless parents" would already be at an age where they grew up with consoles in stores even if they didn't have a personal interest in the hobby.

Because it hasn't actually started marketing it yet. That video was a stopgap to say the real announcement comes in April.

There's not much hype because they haven't announced what the launch titles will be yet. Plus we actually knew about the Switch 2 for a while now because of the leaks. That was just Nintendo officially announcing what we already knew.

Depends on what you care about. The Switch OLED came out a whole 4 years after the original Switch. And all it offers is a better screen. I play my Switch docked, so that wouldn't have been worth waiting for
