The movie of your dreams gets made and it's everything you imagine if not better.

BUT

Every year (EVERY YEAR) for the next 20 years a new sequel movie is made, and each one is worse and worse and WORSE - laughably, morbius-ly, bad tarnishing the legacy of the original movie.

Jurassic Park has yet to have a decent sequel, yet I still adore the original. Easiest of deals.

Something that wouldn't otherwise exist comes into existence - and gets 20 terrible sequels.

Yes but how big is the quality drop between each film? Does this mean we get a pretty damn good trilogy all things considered if the movie of my dreams is goat tier.

Considering this is the Internet and any movie less than literally perfect is worse than getting stabbed in the eye, I think the implication is not even the second film is watchable.

I don't even know what the movie of my dreams would even mean. There are tons of movies I love as is.

Really? The only one I've played is 2, and that was well after 3 released. What was the story like before 3 came out?

I'll just stop watching the sequels if they get bad enough that I no longer enjoy them. At least I got to see that first movie that was absolutely amazing!

So... I get at least one basically perfect movie. What's the downside?

Sure, I'd presumably get enough money off the first one to be set for life. And since the movie of my dreams is something in my universe, I'd have enough control that the bad sequels primarily follow the fictionalized version of myself, since those would mostly be used as an excuse for me to make movies I'd have fun making anyway. Most of the other main characters from that first movie would primarily be used for other things (two of them would be main characters in a TV show, and most of them would be used for a prequel video game series, along with various guest appearances in a variety of things) they at least wouldn't be overly tarnished by these bad sequels.

No deal. I've seen where this road leads.

Looks good on paper but the reality of the matter is you're not going to enjoy getting attached to something because of the dopamine rush the first one causes and then end up following its decline because of that attachment.
