So let's say we meet all the requirements on our apartment application. The situation we are in is that we technically DON'T have the money for the deposit yet; my girlfriend wants to wait to see if we're approved before selling this trailer. But if we don't technically have the money yet but can get it by say, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. We are currently still in the queue. So I'm wondering if we're gonna be caught in a weird place where we meet the requirements, but don't get approved because the money isn't literally in our hands at this very moment. How does this work? Do landlords give you a certain time to move in and pay the rent/deposit or what? ... Copied to Clipboard!

Usually they have no obligation to hold it for you if the deposit isnt paid, but if youre dealing with somebody decent then they might holds it for 2-3 days as a gesture of good will. ... Copied to Clipboard!

From my experience renting apartments you usually get approved first, then have to pay the deposit and maybe first/last month's rent before you get the keys. I can say that the policy of the firm I used to work at is essentially whoever can move in the earliest gets priority, or alternatively whoever puts down a holding fee first to reserve the unit, so yes, there's a certain amount of time before the landlord is going to find someone else. ...
