Korean "game" show. Has an air of Squid Games, but minus the violence (for now). I'm only about 2 episodes in. Main character falls into debt with loan sharks, tries different jobs/possibilities with his limited skills, but just grows depressed and is about to end things. Then he gets a phone notification that large sums of money gets deposited to him, but if he wants more, to take a car to a warehouse. It is empty but he's given an option to join a game to accrue money for his time spent. In the "game" there are only the 8 participants and no guards or anything. They can use a phone to order supplies, but at absurd prices about 10-100x what they normally would be in the real world. But for every minute spent in the game, they accrue money. Interesting so far. Wanna see where it goes --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

HornyLevel posted... Yes, it gets pretty wild by the end. I had fun watching it.I'm on episode 5 right now. I kinda predicted that the power dynamics would come into play and the betrayals would happen. 8 and 6 are for sure the annoying villains. I suspect 1 or 2 (not the actual players/floors) are more than what they seem to be in the game tho. It all honestly feels like some weird Mr Beast thing. Honestly, he already kinda did it with the two strangers stuck inside a room for 100 days or whatever. Just has the caveat of needing to entertain an audience to increase time/money/supplies. Pretty fun/interesting so far. --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I started Alice in Borderland last night. It also has a Squid Game vibe kind of, but more focused on the game side of it and kind of more apocalyptic its also Japanese. Its pretty good but I am only an episode in. It definitely has a breakneck pace. I will check out The 8 next, I have been on kind of a kick since I binged Squid Games in a week ... Its pretty good but I am only an episode in. It definitely has a breakneck pace.I honestly loved Alice in Borderlands more than Squid Game, despite the second one getting most of the mainstream hype. For one, it was a lot more unpredictable than SG, especially because it's set in this weird parallel Japan world. And also because I kind of liked the themes they used with the games (I can't remember if they talked about it in the first episode already). I'm hoping you enjoy it a lot like I did! --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

MotaroRIP619 posted... I really dug the first episode and Im hoping it fills the void that SG left me with.I feel like it would. What's great is that the two seasons that are out pretty much complete the story (sorry if that's a little too spoilery for you), but there will be another season coming out which is speculated to be a side story. So none of that blue balls stuff that SG S2 has done to us ATM lol --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Also, just because we're comparing shows, The 8 Show so far has been a pretty slow burn show. A lot of it so far has been a "figure out how this place works" typa plot. --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

5 episodes in. The class/floor disparity is popping up now. I guess this was a bit predictable. --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Finished it I...think I liked it enough. I just didn't like the torture porn it eventually turned into, which I guess was kind of predictable. Well, the violence. Not the torture. If it was labelled as some artsy/trippy spin-off of Squid Game, it honestly wouldn't be a surprise. I'd give it a 7 or 7.5/10 --- The horrors persist but so do I. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Is it about game theory or drama? I like Squid Game for the capitalism metaphor, but I was kinda disappointed there wasnt more strategy to most of the games. For those interested in this kind of series, Kaiji is pretty much the king of the genre. ... Copied to Clipboard!
