I will never waste any opportunity to say this because it's an uncomfortable truth:

Everything started getting worse once the lowest common denominator started having unfettered access to high-speed internet, affordable smartphones and unregulated social media platforms. The absolute fucking irony in the class war being irreparably tilted in the 1%'s favor because of these people.

You're right. We allowed foolish people to have access to the internet and it's made things worse for us in the long run. They will never change for the better no matter what, so is it even the right thing to keep on saving them from themselves?

People should get rid of social media apps and stop giving tech companies any attention.

Life is so much better without the crap there.

Meet people in real life, contact close friends directly, use your free time for more useful activities.

If the solution to something is "Everyone does X" then that's not a solution. Never in the history of humans has everyone banded together to do X.

The election sent the message that this country is still way far to the right on most things. I expect most of the progress we've made in the last 25 years to be undone over the next 4.

Yes, he noted that trump winning with 49% of the vote and Kamala losing with 48% of the vote signifies a big cultural shift from when Biden won with 51% of the vote and trump lost with 46% of the vote

Just went to Facebook for the first time in forever to turn off as many notifications as possible and make my account as private as possible and quickly remember why it's been so long since I went to Facebook. I hate that site so fucking much. Were it not for family members who are big users of it I'd have deleted my account years ago.

It wasn't my intention to say, that hate speech should be tolerated and that tech companies should get away with their unwillingness to moderate hate speech.

I sure hope that the EU keeps pushing forward to hold them accountable, as they've been trying during the last years. It's not enough yet, but a start at least.

However, I still stand by what I wrote before. People really should abandon such platforms.

All serious studies come to the same conclusion: Excessive social media usage, especially when facing hate speech and discrimination, hurts individuals and, at least partially, even societies. Hate speech and discrimination existed before social media, sure, but the accessibility of social media drastically enhanced its damage potential. Crap like Meta or X should, for the own well-being, be ignored.
