I want to read the comments and see what people thought of lion king 2, because I admit I actually liked it when I was a kid. Okay even now.

They're turned off. You can't.

Side note, YouTube is not the place for discussion on stuff like this anyway. The comment sections are always dumpster fires.

I always get notifications for my Youtube channel saying that a specific video is automatically set to Made For Kids and that I, as a creator, should go through all my videos to set them as Made For Kids. I don't because I want the comments section back. But when I change my videos to Not Made For Kids, it gets automatically changed back to Made for Kids.

Basically, you can't and the creator can't change it either. I checked my Creator Studio and the comments are all gone. I hate it.

Eh, after giving it some thought just now, kids are stupid and could potentially give out their personal info if asked, or even unprovoked. I can imagine comments saying, "I'm 9 years old and this is my favorite show. Does anyone want to come hang out?" and then it just snowballs from there.

Yes, creepy shit like this is exactly why they turned off comments on the kids stuff. It sucks. But it was the right choice.

Unironically, you have to say fuck 75% of the way through every video if you want control of it.

Weirdly you can read all comments from the first Sonic 3 trailer. Not consistent when comments are turned off. Also all comments can be reported on.

I remember seeing on one cartoon clip, the guy edited a more violent scene as an ending to the video so it wouldn't be marked as made for kids.

There's a reason why most animated shows/clips/whatever on YT tend to have at least one violent scene per episode. Cause otherwise YT will automatically flag it as for children. Cause only children watch animation, obviously.

So Shadow twisting Knuckles' wrist in the first trailer is considered "violent" and the reason it is not flagged as for kids.

Oh wait, nevermind. Shadow beat up a bunch of guys. lol

As an afterthought, and not to knock at the tc, but it's funny how we can forget certain words and do our best to replace them in a way that makes sense to others. In this case, it's "undisable" instead of "enable" or "reenable", and a more recent example for me is using "temperature" instead of "fever".

But still it's pretty wild that they already offer a service to watch videos that has comments removed, yet still insist on doing it to regular youtube.

Even all the youtube apps like vanced and newpipe can't restore it; they were able to bring the dislikes counter back but even this was beyond them. Google is weird. Almost like they don't want to drive content discussion.

If only Youtube actually enforced the rule stating that you needed to be 13 years old or older to have an account and interact with the community. (Not that there isn't also the risk of teens giving out their personal info, but this is clearly targeting young children.)

When some of my videos started getting some minor interest (I have just over 10 videos that have >10,000 views, only one in 6 figures though) YouTube wanted me to sign up to their partner programme. I declined as I'm not a content creator, and strangely enough after the acceptance period expired, the next videos I uploaded were age restricted to 18+.

I've made sure everything I've posted is non-age restricted, so people can comment. Even though, typically, there's a healthy percentage of comments that are trolls.

Like every other site, trust the users.
The problem was that YouTube was snooping around and discovered what users that were sub-13, and sold ads slots specifically targeting sub-13 users.
They were discovered with their hands in the cookie jar, and were forced to do something. They moved the blame to the users and forced the "for kids" mode on us.

Not dumb at all.

Kids are coming there to look at things that interest them. They don't need to see a bunch of toxic people doing their thing and poisoning their minds.

Honestly the comment sections should be done away with altogether, like IMDB. I come there for videos, not comment discussions.
