You cannot judge this by a single year of results. If all 4 of the teams on byes had won, people would be saying it's because "we're making these college students play too many games". Give it a few years and see how things shake out.

If all the bye teams win, that means the system works! You want the teams with byes winning

Always felt 12 was a blatant cash grab. My preference was 8 but I'm not big on CFB in general so my opinion shouldn't count for much lol.

Though I guess I was kinda serious in that I think the Top 4 all being bounced in their first game like this will be seen as a problem by the commissioners/top brass and the only real way out of that for them would be expansion to 16 (since they'll never shrink the field now and remove games/money) even though you're right that a sample size of 1 is not something you should be basing such a decision on.

8 was always the right answer.

We're going to be at 16 soon enough though.

They really just need to reseed after the 1st round. The 4 conference champions getting a bye is fine, seeding the bracket like Boise and Arizona State are 3/4 seed is not because it fucked up the fairness for everyone else.

Oregon got absolutely fucked for going undefeated in the regular season.

Notre Dame has opened as a 1.5 point favorite against Penn State

Ohio State opened at 4.5 and it's already up to 6

Three of the four higher seeds were favored, and Notre Dame was only a 1 or 2 point underdog against Georgia. You really cant look much into the rest vs rust argument here.

nobody viewed the acc worth a damn pretty much by week 1 when clemson got rocked and FSU lost to tech

I relish Texas being in the underdog role. Playing with house money now.

I get it, Ohio State is peaking and Texas looked very sus. But I chalk it up to getting the kitchen sink thrown at us by one of the scrappiest, force-of-will teams I have ever seen in ASU. They hit on every roulette play and it unbelievably kept landing in their favor.

Apparently the play Notre Dame ran is illegal under most circumstances, as the substitutions aka the punt team would need to stay on the field for at least one play.

Because the previous play was stopped and reviewed, this removed the restrictions and Notre Dame was able to run the play.

Kirby Smart was yelling from the sidelines about how it should've been an illegal play since he didn't know the how the rule worked. It added to Georgia's panic.

I wonder if the NCAA will rule change this.

The NCAA doesn't like coaches gaming the system (see: the end of Oregon/Ohio State in the regular season) so that rule will change quickly.

Someone said to me that we should have kneeled it out with 12 men on the field because of what they did. I really wish we had even though I don't begrudge them doing it, they did everything they could (and should) to win
