It's an all-time great, so absolutely.

It also deserves a prequel or sequel.

I'm voting yes simply because I want a remake/remaster. It was my favorite game on PS1.

I like the idea of it, but it was admittedly a mess of a game to play, even if the story was engaging the gameplay was punishing and punitive for trying to master it.

yeah, it was a good game, and i think it might be considered a little under-appreciated.

i still need to actually beat it one of these days. my first playthrough way back in the day ended when i encountered a glitch that made it so a necessary store sequence wouldn't trigger when it was supposed to. it was years before i went back to it and gave it another shot, and this time i got all the way up to the final area but for some reason i stopped playing it and never went back. don't remember why.

One of my favorite games ever and my favorite PS1 game. Still a blast to this day to play. Also in a recent run I was using the Dragoon Modifier tool for a Hard Mode option and had a blast with it.

Not sure how a sequel would work unless Soa decides he wants to try to kill all life again, but a Prequel showing the events of the Dragon Campaign would be great.

The first generation of dragoons (plus a younger, less grizzled version of Rose and Zieg) would be very interesting to find out more about, and seeing such a seemingly large-scale conflict with everything in its prime would be amazing. The basic story would already be very well-defined, but the possibilities are endless in terms of how they could actually go about fleshing it out.

I think it gets quite a bit of recognition. Often mentioned in most top lists of ps1 era games on game websites and articles. In niche places like gamefaqs I feel like it often gets too much praise for what it was. It gets constantly talked about on this site.

If the praise were as overwhelming as you suggest, we'd be seeing more games or a remake.

Evidently it's not enough.

Not necessarily. Breath of Fire constantly gets talked about in magazines and websites and its been a dead franchise for 20+ years ignoring that nonsense mobile cash grab online game that fizzled out quickly. People constantly talk about it. Skies of Arcadia is one of the most requested games to receive a modern port/remaster and gets ignored. The list goes on and on.

Besides when I mention overwhelming praise Im talking about niche places like gamefaqs. No one gives a shit what the 1,000 people who hang out here thinks.

Yeah, it could make for an amazing game alright. I've read some fanfiction that shows how it could be done right.

Fighting a Wingly Emperor reborn as the God of Destruction isn't good? I thought it was great and didn't see the whole "Zieg was mind controlled by Melbu Frahma twist" coming. The battle was also quite difficult for the "kid me" at the time. I didn't see the Form 4 Dragon Block Staff + confusion shenanigans coming and had to try the fight again.

It's very mediocre and if anything gets too much. There are loads of much better jrpgs from the time period but a lot of kids bought into the admittedly very well done presentation, so it's got that I-Played-It-When-I-Was-8-So-Its-Amazing thing going for it

It's admittedly been a long time since I've played it, but everything I remember of the plot and gameplay is in no way similar to FF7 aside from the basics of it being a turn-based RPG.

it's not an FF7 knockoff though? there is nothing similar to the materia system, the additions are a unique mechanic that FF7 doesn't have anything like, the overworld map system is completely different, character progression is different..... i just don't understand why people would think it's a "blatant crappy FF7 knock off". what, just cuz the protagonist is a dude with blonde spiky hair?

My guess is that FF7 was their first RPG so turn based and similar early 3D graphics made it a clone to them.

An odd memory I have of that game is playing it in America when it hadn't been released in my home country (NI). Played a demo of it in some shopping centre. Went back home and was talking about games 'n stuff with my friends and I got talking about it and they had no clue what the fuck I was on about.

Can't remember when it eventually got released.

JRPG sequels doesn't mean it have to be a direct continuation of the original story. Look at Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.

You're trying to tell me 50 Shades of Grey isn't a Twilight knock-off because it doesn't have vampires or werewolves. Regardless of the particulars, it objectively came from someone trying to make Twilight fan fiction, and LoD objectively came from Shuhei Yoshida trying to make "Sony's FF7" because he thought FF7 saved the PlayStation, then poached a Square guy to direct it (though he wasn't able to get any of the real powerhouses)

So why don't you point out the similarities instead of making another analogy? The only thing I can think of is party member dying. Stories aren't similar. Gameplay is vastly different. Overworld is handled differently. I really don't see the similarities.
