It's wild to me seeing some people mentioning Chrono Cross lol, it is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. I play it like once every year or something like that >_>

But I guess my opinion can be equally wild to some, the worst RPG I've ever tried was Skyrim, I even attempted to play it multiple times too, it just doesn't appeal to me I guess.

The worst RPG I actually finished was probably FFXIII. I did like XIII-2 and Lightning Returns a lot though.

Yeah I can see someone saying SMRPG isn't the *best* RPG of all time. But to say it's the *worst* RPG of all time... Maybe if you've only played a handful of RPGs?
I fall into the latter lol. I have not played a ton of them. And the question in this topic is not worst of all time. Its the worst youve played

I'm the opposite. Loved SMRPG but Mario and Luigi games was boring for me.
Meanwhile I also enjoyed M&L Partners in Time and Inside Story lol. Two good games.

Idk. RPG just was not it for me at all. I made it to the point where either Geno or Mallow join your team (whichever was second since I know I had them both) and then stopped. Couldnt finish it

Dark Sigil: Blade of the Exiled (DS)

Very ambitious game hampered by bugs, glitches, collision detection issues, high encounter rates, mediocre music, and a final boss I never had to fight because the game glitched me passed it (lol).

I see nothing unreasonable, here. By this, I mean that all of the reasons you've given are believably reasonable.

How do you feel about Dragon's Dogma?

My favorite part was when I got the airship and I flew to a town where apparently I wasnt supposed to go to yet despite the fact that you could very easily get there, and NPCs were talking about events that wouldnt actually happen in-game for hours.

Honestly?

Final Fantasy 10

I hated the main character so damned much. And I hated their skill progression system.

And I hated it's combat.

That it still makes my skin crawl so many years later is proof of how bad it was to me.

I heard FFX is an amazing game for decades. I finally tried it last year and quit after a couple hours. Everything about it felt cheap and boring. Its a relic of that era trying to show off the mediocre graphics synthesizer PS2 tech. A harbinger of todays cinematic gaming garbage.

IIRC there is a patch to make the encounter rate not absurd, so play it with that.

Cant believe I forgot to mention Golden Sun. Probably the longest, most poorly paced and boring game Ive ever played AND beaten. Gave up part way through 2 because it was the same game.

Crappy characters(if you could even call them that), story, graphics outside of combat, and gameplay. The game is also insanely dialogue heavy. More so then any rpg or game Ive ever played also.

I had many soft locks, to the point where I had to save after almost every event just so I wouldn't lose progress. Could be that they made a revision of the game that addressed some of these. I own an original revision version of the game.

This one ranks up there for me too. I guess it's just beloved because at the time there were basically no Nintendo RPGs and some players only play Nintendo.

But good gracious I have never in my life seen worse pacing. At least 90% of the main story should have been side quests. Because a freaking tree being sad because nobody remembered its birthday, or whatever the hell it was, has not a single thing to do with lighting lighthouses.

To be fair, I did think the actual combat system was p legit. But that can only carry you so far when you have to fight a thousand battles over the course of the game.

I dont think FFX deserves to be on the pedestal people put it on, and there is a lot I dont like about it (mainly the interactive movies aspect and the linearity), but there are some things I love about it.

The combat is some of the best in the series because of how fast the animations are (compare to 7 and 8 especially, where animations take forever in the name of showing off 3D graphics), Blitzball is one of the better minigames in the series (or at least it is until the enemies level up to a certain point, when it becomes a chore, and I reset the league to make it fun again), and if you complete the Monster Arena, rewrite the Sphere Grid, and max stats, its probably the best power fantasy in the series, full stop. You can max everyones stats completely and with Break Damage Limit, Break HP Limit, and Break MP Limit, the 99,999s are so satisfying that I often find myself wanting to replay the remaster just for that.

Also, I'm surprised at how many people even played Lunar Dragon Song.
