it is time again for geoff keighleys decemberween shindig! all sorts of exciting new game reveals occasionally interrupted by some shitty award show or whatever. remember to to leave out mountain dew and doritos for santa geoff when he comes down through your xbox to deliver the world premieres! ok that may not have been the best christmas type metaphor but who cares. anyway i heartell a new tekken character will be revealed (and by new im sure they mean "character from tekken 7") so thats something to be disappointed by! perhaps well get a decemberween mackerel and silksong will make an appearance!

Feels like just yesterday I remember the God of War DLC stealth drop with them slowly revealing the date to reveal like... that exact date. Such a hype announcement.

Will be watching hoping for:

-A crumb of that (hype unexpected announcements)
-Some Rebirth wins ideally (soundtrack & RPG...)
-Hades II release date
-Tifa in Tekken 8
-Kingdom Hearts 4? I feel like we're owed another KH4 teaser, it's been a while

Wukong was always going to dominate public votes this year, look at it winning the Golden Joystick, but the rest Gacha games have completely broken the Players Choice voting system.

There's no way they show anything that breaks the internet like the new Nintendo system or a GTA 6 trailer.

I think Luke Roberts has a shot at performance (should be running away with it imo) though I could see it going to Briana White. Though again lead and supporting should be separate categories like they are everywhere else.

So far there doesnt really seem to be a frontrunner this year. Metaphor, Balatro, Astro Bot, Rebirth and Wukong are carving up the outlet awards between them. I can envision a scenario where those five split the panel vote to the point where the public vote 10% share puts Wukong over the top. All I feel confident in saying is that I really dont think itll be Erdtree. So lets see if I eat crow on that!

Aren't Wukong's wins mostly player votes?

Yes but there has been at least one non-player vote jury GOTY for Wukong judging by the Resetera thread. It will do quite well from the international outlets that make up most of the jury, not dominating or even ahead necessarily but likely enough to stay competitive. I think it can win, but again nothing except for Erdtree would surprise me.

Wukong winning would be so depressing

I imagine the rumored Kirby Planet Robotbot HD for Switch will get announced, but nothing beyond that for Nintendo

also don't forget the 2 hour preshow hosted by Gamespot and Giant Bomb because I know we love Fandom around here.

IDK I think this is normal internet stuff...people like to blame gacha games for "buying" votes...but while that's definitely part of it, that category is dominated by "which game has the most terminally online fanbase" for a while now. That just happens to be like every gacha player. But that's also why Wukong is getting crazy support everywhere, that's also why the runner up to Genshin a few years back wasn't Elden Ring but Sonic Frontiers.

I cannot handle "Do You Want Emancipation?", followed by 2 years of mystery Atlus streams with nothing in them except Lawson collabs and pop-up shops again. P6 is probably years away and I don't want an announcement until that shit is 365 days from release MAX.

As far as Atlus is concerned, the Persona 5 distance timer resets every year with a new P5 related releases. You say P5 is 8 years old, they say P5X just came out this year.

The P6 team is the one that did Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal, not Metaphor.

Didn't they take a fair chunk of the Persona staff for Studio Zero though? Not that they don't have plenty of others and newer individuals left on the Persona team can't make P6 great, but I'd be perfectly fine waiting a bit more for P6 to really let them flourish

Yeah see this is what I'm talking about. Yes it was technically a different team, but your nuts if a huge amount of the talent, resources, time from the Persona team wasn't involved.

The idea that it was a clear cut A and B Team just doesn't fly, as is the case whenever anybody makes that claim. It wasn't true for Platinum Games, it's not true here!

I'm certain there was overlap, I'm less certain that there's been basically zero movement on P6 or that Atlus intended for Metaphor to "replace" a Persona game. If anything, Persona 3 Reload, the game that Persona team actually worked on, would be what's holding back P6.

Oh I'm SURE there's been a ton of work on P6. Absolutely no doubt.

I still think late 2026 is the BEST people should expect. It's not gonna be anywhere NEAR this show. Even if I'm wrong, it'll amount to nothing more than a logo teaser and will just be something for people to sit and stew on for ages with absolutely no meaningful information releasing. I don't want that. I don't even want to know what color this is is gonna be yet.

What do you mean by "announce"? They've talked about P6 in financial reports.
